I'd have sworn we had a thread like this before, but I can't find it. Forgive me if we've already had this conversation blush

Anyway, I've been planning a webpage and looking into various hosting companies. I've gone through the different host review sites but none of them seem to be consistently loved or hated.

I was going to ask Annette who hosts these boards and annesplace, but she seems to be a bit preoccupied this week... laugh . So I thought I'd post here and see if anyone has any recommendations? I'm not too concerned about storage space, as I don't expect to need too much, and I don't need any extravagant technical abilities (ASP, SQL, etc). I would like POP3 email and email forwarding. So far I've looked mostly at StartLogic, LunarPages, big names like that, but there always seem to be one or two reviews saying they're horrible. Bluehost seems to have a better reputation but is less well-known in general. So any advice anyone has would be appreciated smile

Thanks!
Kaylle

I've used Geocities since before they were owned by Yahoo. The only complaint I have is that you have to pay to get rid of the ads, but it is worth it for the extra space, particularly if you have a large fan fiction archive and lots of other stuff on your website like I do.

http://whreviews.com/ gives a nice, first person opinion about several host providers.

Also you need to go here:

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/

This is a great place to find out info on quality hosting providers. While you are there, check out their offer forum at:

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?s=6b828efce37d70e2ea7901544f18f047&forumid=4

(Sorry for the long url...)

I've personally used http://www.valuablehost.com and http://www.glexicon.com. While being pretty good for the most part, both were smaller companies that grew too fast and have experienced "growing pains." (It's been painful for me at times anyway...)

No doubt in my mind: I recommend freewebs.com

Why? The best thing about is that there are no ads !! And it's absolutely free, *and* you can upload larger files as well.

But if you're making a web page to host larger files for people to download, unfortunately it's a bit slow. But as a regular homepage? Perfect! smile I have mine right here www.freewebs.com/pelican , although I never finished it. <g> I was just so excited about finally finding a place that had no ads, so I made an index-file in less than 30 minutes. Didn't think about what to do next with it laugh

Pelican smile

Such a little thing really, a kiss...most people don't give it a moment's consideration. They kiss on meeting, they kiss on parting, that simple touching of flesh is taken entirely for granted as a basic human right.

Pelican, can you post photos to freewebs.com and then link to them? Or are they like geocities and don't allow linking?
