Kelen Ian was born yesterday at 2:34pm EST. He's a big boy, 10 pounds even, 21.5 inches long, 15in head circumference, and red hair. He gets his length and head from his daddy, but we have no idea where he gets the weight from! I went 41 weeks, but didn't have gestational diabetes. Being a big baby coming out of little me, he broke his left clavicle. It's a clean break, though, so we just have to keep it "slinged" (arm sleeve pinned to the chest) and it should heal in about 3 weeks.

He's a stubborn cuss, though. I was scheduled to be induced yesterday and was supposed to be at the hospital at 7am. Instead, my water broke at 2:45am. I gotta tell you, that epidural was niiiice. I probably could have slept if everyone wasn't talking!

I can't upload the pics to where I can embed them into the post, but you can find them here.

Congratulations! party What a cutie! Kelen is a very cool and unique name.

Lois: You know, I have a funny feeling that you didn't tell me your biggest secret.

Clark: Well, just to put your little mind at ease, Lois, you're right.

Congratulations! You should have your hands full with this little bundle of joy. Ten pounds is a lot of newborn! My older daughter was ten pounds two ounces at birth, and now that she's grown she's about five foot seven inches and a hundred forty pounds. Big babies don't always mean big adults.

I'm sure you're thrilled to be a new mommy, and you should be. Just get as much rest as you can (ha-ha) and be ready for the next twenty years. They're going to be interesting.

I've already told you "in person," but congrats again, Karen! I wonder if you remember any of our conversation this morning with Carol while you were doped up and I was half-asleep. wink

I'm so glad to have another boy FoLC to join Collin! wink

Thanks, everyone! And yes, Jenn, I do remember the conversation. I wasn't *that* drugged, just numb! laugh Terry, I can guarantee he'll grow up tall. I may be 5'1", but my husband is 6'6". I can easily blame him for the length. I've been telling people for years that we're trying to even out the gene pool. My aunt and uncle are similar sizes to me and my husband, and their son is 6'3" and their daughter is 5'10" or so.

Song for a Fifth Child

Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth
empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
hang out the washing and butter the bread,
sew on a button and make up a bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.

Oh, I've grown shiftless as Little Boy Blue
(lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
(pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo).
The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew
and out in the yard there's a hullabaloo
but I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo.
Look! Aren't her eyes the most wonderful hue?
(lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).

The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
for children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.
