I'm trying to think of songs that suit heroes. Stand up and fight and be strong and determined and save people and do right, etc. type of songs.

In particular, I'm trying to think of songs that suit John Connor - been watching Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and was just so thrilled last week to see John stepping up and being the hero that he's supposed to be, even when Sarah wants to run. He won't run. Oh, I love it. I totally got this new theory about the show in my head when I saw that ep and it just thrilled me.

But now I'm trying to think of songs to recommend for SCC vids over on that forum. But my mind is blank. So I decided to come ask here, since there's such familiarity with heroes (albeit of a different type).

My very favorite hero song is actually called "Hero" by David Crosby.

Mona

It was one of those great stories that you can't put down at night
The hero knew what he had to do and he wasn't afraid to fight
The villain goes to jail while the hero goes free
I wish it were that simple for me

And the reason that she loved him
Was the reason I loved him too
And he never wondered what was right or wrong
He just knew, he just knew

[Instrumental (Synths and Electric Guitar)]

Shadow and shade mix together at dawn
But by the time you catch them simplicity's gone
So we sort through the pieces my friends and I
Searching through the darkness to find the breaks in the sky

And the reason that she loved him
Was the reason I loved him too
And he never wondered what was right or wrong
He just knew, he just knew

[Instrumental (Synths and Electric Guitar)]

And we wonder yes, we wonder
How do you make sense of this
When the hero kills the maiden
With his kiss, with his kiss

[Instrumental (Synths and Electric Guitar)]

Well, it was one of those great stories that you can't put down at night
The hero knew what he had to do and he wasn't afraid to fight
The villain goes to jail while the hero goes free
I wish it were that simple for me

Were that simple for me

One of my favorites is Hero by Nickelback. Nickelback Lyrics and the video on youtube Youtube video

I also like Mariah Carey's Hero but that may not go with your vid if you're looking for action, etc. But just in case: Mariah Carey Hero Youtube

If you wanted something just instrumental may I recommend several of the soundtracks on "300", the slamming guitar riffs and percussion just scream the word "HEROES" everytime I listen. These tracks in particular:
"Remember Us"
"The Hot Gates"
"The Agoge"
"Come and Get Them"

I also think the music from "The Last Samauri" and "The Last Mohican" might be worthwhile also.

I'll check that one out when I get home. I'm looking for action-filled or introspective or hopeful. Just so long as it's strong and determined (no "I can't" songs, no songs with too much doubt - a little is okay).

Oh, and I don't ship John/Cam, so no romance/hero songs. If they introduce Kate Brewster, I might look for such songs, but I won't hold my breath.

But the idea is that he's going to save people, he's going to fight back, and he's not going to run and not going to back down. Love that.

BTW, here is is a fantastic JL Flash vid for anyone interested. Obviously, it's very specific to a running hero, but it's great for him.

ETA: Just watched the vid. I have heard that song before. Realized it as soon as the music started. Good song.

Holding Out For A Hero by Bonnie Tyler has the line "it's going to take a Superman to sweep me off my feet"

Working Class Hero by John Lennon might not be ideal, and includes some bad language.

Hayden Panettiere - My Hero Is You is sung by the girl who plays Claire in Heroes, and the fanvid uses Heroes characters.

Papaya - Hero is a very upbeat song with a lot of repetitions of "You are my Hero" which ought to be useful.

And another one Sarah Connor - From Zero To Hero - possibly useful lyrics.

There is a song ironically called " Waitin\' For A Superman " originally by the Flaming Lips and I believe it fits very well into the teenage world of John Connor, even more so in the very first episodes where he visibly couldn't deal with the burden that lays on him.

I'll definitely give it a listen. Though I admit, I was unhappy with his depiction in the first few eps. Being a big fan of John in T2, I am much happier with his depiction in later eps. I was thrilled to see his behavior in "Heavy Metal" and totally thought he was in the right about Jordan. And I could talk about this a lot. Except it's not really on topic. But I love discussing it (and my new theory after "Heavy Metal" that I'm not sure will hold up in future eps). TWOP's board and Sarah Connor Society just aren't active enough - people don't post every single minute. If you know any other good boards, let me know.

I think "High" by RyanDan fits your request.

Well here I am with so much to offer
Nothing to do but be here today
Giving myself it's the best I can do if I'm needed
Use my strength in anyway

Chorus:
If we all work together
We would be stronger
If we all open our eyes
We could see further
If we all stand tall enough no one can beat us
If we all hold our hands up high we can carry the world

And all I ask is that we be honest
Do what we can if we're gonna stay
I want to make you a promise
Love and understanding
Is the game I want to play

(Chorus)

With my hands with my feet
When I dream when I sleep
From the start here inside I believe

If we all work together
We would be stronger
If we all hold our hands up high we can carry the world

(Chorus)

I've thought about making a Superman video from this one, but I still haven't got to it.

"My wife's love is what unites Krypton and Earth in my heart. Without it, without her, I truly would be in hell."

I love the lyrics of that one. Will definitely have to give it a listen when I get home. Thanks very much for the suggestion.

The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance packs a lot of punch, and definitely hero themed.
