Hi!

I was wondering if anyone else is reading Joss's Angel: After the Fall?

And I was wondering if anyone is, have they read Issue #3 yet? And I was further wondering if they *are* reading AAtF, and they *have* read issue #3, if they've gotten to the very. last. page?

Anyone?

Anyone else Totally Not See That Coming? Anyone else's eyeballs sprong out of their head while they made high-pitched squeeky sounds audible only to sea mammels?

If yes, please say so here. Let's discuss!
If no, then... that's fine. I'll be ok. Really.

CC

I only discovered they'd created this quite recently. So to answer the Q, no I haven't read any of it. No eyeball spronging here. Mr Whedon is quite good at that, isn't he.

But I'd love to read it! I presume it's been released in the UK but I couldn't find any issues when I looked in a newsagent. Will try somewhere else this pm. The reviews I've seen are very complimentary.

If you tell me what it is, I'd gladly discuss it. I heard a little something about Gunn being... well..., but maybe that's not what you're talking about? What are you talking about? Oh, tell me, tell me! I have to knoooooowwww!!!

I hate being out of the loop. Grrr aaargh.

I've added a spoiler warning to the thread header, so you can tell me, too, CC. laugh

Especially if it helps negate the terrible series ending, which I'm still having trouble dealing with and have yet to work up the nerve to watch. wink

Quick update: I wandered into a specialist comic book shop during my wanderings this afternoon, and the man told me that they've had 1 and 2, both of which are currently out of stock, but not 3 yet. Which now means that you have absolutely no choice in the matter. You have to tell us! hyper Please?

(how can you resist that face? frown )

Alternatively, in the immortal words of Lilah Morgan, "If you don't tell me right now, I'm gonna have your skin peeled off and stapled back on - inside out." In a nice way. wink

The comic is an official continuation, written by Joss. It takes place several months after the finale (though they promised to do a flashback later).

I've been reading it, but I don't remember which issue # I last got. I'll check later. I think it was #2. (Where we find out the refugees' destination/caretaker.)

For those who aren't aware, there's also a Buffy comic that's the official continuation of the show. The first several issues were written by Joss, but then he went to go write Angel and put someone else in charge of writing Buffy. Still, well worth the read if you're a fan of the series.

Lab, what did you want to know about?

Presumbably what happened on the last page of issue #3 that Carol was referring to in her original post.

And I'm dying to know too! laugh

What C_A said. I'm rather hoping that CC's mysterious twist in the comic continuation is something that makes the whole horrible 'everyone dies at the end' thing go away and they all live happily ever after. laugh

When I've invested years of my life watching characters, caring about them and sharing their adventures, I tend to get seriously disturbed and ticked off when they go out unhappily. I like to think of them living on TV land somewhere, all snuggly and warm.

I'd begun to drift away from Angel during the whole Connor/Cordelia storyline, then gave up completely when Fred was killed off (still really haven't forgiven JW for that), so I've never seen the final episode and still haven't worked up the nerve to watch it. (Although that may end soon as I'm planning an Angel wallow of all 5 seasons back to back once I'm done with my current Buffy wallow. Finally, I might actually watch every episode. laugh . If so, then something that perks me up - like this comic? we can hope - after sinking me into depression would be enormously welcome!)

So it turns out I've only read Issue 1. Issue 2 should be arriving at my door soonish, I hope. I was out of town for New Year's, so I put the shipment on hold. (I get my comics mail order from Jacey Services , a really small company run by this one guy, Jack. Jack's awesome. And he does international shipping.)

According to Wiki, Issue 3 won't be out until next week. How/where did you get it, CC? Or did you just type in the wrong issue #?

As for Lab, I wasn't sure if the question was "What's the big spoiler from Issue 3?" or "What happened after the finale?" One of those questions I could have answered, the other, not so much.

Ohhhh, this is interesting. I'm receiving the comics from IDW publishing. Issue #3 came in the mail yesterday. I didn't realize it was any earlier than usual.

*wonders what I did to deserve preferential treatment*

Anyway, it came with this teaser:

If you thought the end of Issue 2 was surprising, just wait until you see the end of Issue 3!

Which, of course, made me want to flip to the very last page immediately. (That's just me. Open all the presents! Don't wait 'til Christmas!)
But this time... I didn't.

And the story was so absorbing I forgot all about the surprise on the last page. When I read up on it, I was blown away. I love it when I just don't see it coming. I love when a writer sucks me in and *then* throws the curve of all curves.

Annnnd that's all I'm saying. I don't want to spoil it. It's too good. It's 'Rosebud is the sled' good and 'the call is coming from inside the house' good. I can't do it.

Shall I just wait here until Issue 3 is more widely available? I totally can!

*pulls up chair, gets cozy*

I will say this (from Issues 1 and 2) the thing about Gunn? It's true. And WWP has pulled a Lazarus of a see-through sort. And the hopeful something you wanted, Lab, so far so good, though there are 9 more issues to go, I think. Plenty of time for it to all go to hell (some more.)

C_A, that's cool - thank you. I've bookmarked it and will read it after I've done my Angel wallow and watched S5. thumbsup

And you just know JW will, too. The git. laugh But, still...hopeful to this point. That's something I can live with. For now... And if he plays nice I might just forgive him for Fred and Anya. wink

I know what happened on the last page! smile1

And my eyes didn't go eek , but only because I read it on a spoiler site so I was expecting something big.

Interesting, although we don't really know what's going on yet... well, we know what he isn't, but not what he is... In fact, this situation sounds a bit like what happens in a fic I recently read, although that's set 3 years down the line. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3996851/1/They_Did_Not_Fade_Away

ps. still haven't found any copies (in stock) in the UK.
