I was not sure if I should do this or not. But my husband was offered a job in Fishkill, Ny. We are not sure is we are going to take it or not. My problem is I can't find the info I want. Is it a good town, what it is like to live there, and so on. Does someone live there or near there that I can pick there brain about. I would really appreciate it.
Thanks

Well, I haven't been out that way very much, but looking at the map...

You'll be reasonably close to NYC. Getting in to the city will be a mess of traffic and clogged highways and confusing interchanges, but you'll actually be pretty close. If there's a train that runs out that way (there should be, but I'm not sure), it'll actually be pretty easy.

It's also not too far from upstate NJ. That area tends to be high end suburbs. Stuff is pretty spread out, but it's expensive. The Mall at Short Hills , for example, is almost exactly mirror imaged across the state line.

It's... Lincoln Navigator territory. Upstate NJ, that is. Things might be very different on the other side of the border.

I haven't really seen fishkill itself. I've just driven through on 84, which doesn't tell you much.

Oh, Dad's here.

"Medium sized town. Houses with a lot of land. Close to a train to NYC -- not the communter train, the Amtrak line that goes to Albany. In the Hudston Valley, on the river. 1 1/2 hours north of NYC. Mostly residential community, with light industry. ... There must be a chamber of commerce that would describe it better."

Sounds like what I was thinking. High-end suburb.

That should hopefully get you started. Hope it helps. smile

When in doubt, think about penguins. It probably won't help, but at least it'll be fun.
