I'm hopelessly ignorant of current pop tunes but need to use the title of one in a story I'm working on.

Here's the passage in question.

Quote
“Have you ever been to a burping contest? Or a Pee Wee Herman film festival?” Memories of a drunken frat boy belching the tune to ________________ slid through my brain and right back out.
This scene takes place about a year ago. What tune might work in the blank? I need something timely, but not obscure.

Thanks in advance for your help.

A few ideas... Sorry if they're a bit older than what you're looking for, but I stopped listening to the radio around spring 2004 and only picked it up again this winter. But these songs made quite an impression and I think they would be remembered by pop fans.

'Sk8er Boi', Avril Lavigne (late 2002)
'Crazy In Love', Beyoncé (summer 2003)
'This Love', Maroon 5 (early 2003)
'My Immortal', Evanescence (late 2003 - it's a mellow song, but I don't think the participants in a belching contest would care, would they?)
'Superstar', Jamelia (late 2003)

See ya,
AnnaBtG.

What we've got here is failure to communicate...

Thanks Anna. Actually after I got into the scene a little more, I realized I needed something kinda quirky and am going with "YMCA."

I appreciate that you took time to list all those songs. smile
