Just so you know, I'm being forced to write this post. I have been promised, however, that it will help motivate Kae to write something. Always a worthy cause, I must admit.

Here's the thing. We were sitting around on IRC discussing the nature of poetry and somehow the conversation led us to boring poetry about mundane things. Off the top of my sleepy head, I came up with this:

Bubbling and steaming, I fear
That too hot my coffee ever shall be.
What shall I do? My precious elixer
Shall inevitably scald me.

It's silly drivel, and it has no meter and could probably use cleaning up... But that's kind of the point, I guess.

Like the boring fic challenge, only with poetry and it doesn't have to be about L&C.

Come on, FoLCs, do your worst!

Paul

P.S. As long as we're talking about random things, I find myself a little jealous that most of the other forums have at least one stickied topic. I've idly considered creating a thread of pure OT randomness and making it a sticky, but I'm not sure anyone would really appreciate that. Any thoughts?

When in doubt, think about penguins. It probably won't help, but at least it'll be fun.

Okay, I'm giving this a try, but before I do, re: the lack of a stickied topic in this forum, Paul, you need to rejoice in this forum's uniqueness. (Sorry for the run-on sentence; I use them a lot when I'm tired.)

And speaking of being tired, that must be the reason for this piece of drivel that I'm going to post. For that, I apologise.

People, shoving and grumbling,
snarling while shopping,
buy my wares
and then dare
to say Merry Christmas!

I like the idea of a sticky randomness topic. But that kind of thing appeals to me.

Here's my poem...

My Landlord
She came to remove the bookcase
but left the dust underneath
I should clean it really.

Great idea! If only I could write poetry...

Too many ideas
Fighting for attention
Procrastination
Leading to distraction
Stories to finish, deadlines to meet
Can't choose to write at random
But the Muse insisted
O god, not another fandom...!

Ha, you should see some of the poems I wrote when I was twelve. Too bad they were in Greek laugh

I post a pic
I write a fic
I study a bit
And then I'm beat!

Wow, I can rhyme! laugh

Wendy, how could you
Be so unfaithful
As to leave all this behind?
Surely you must realise
To write for another fandom
Is just downright unkind.

wink

Ahem.

Sorry.

Chris.

My attempt.

Ode to Wendy

My heart is broken
And I will never be the same
For I have been betrayed
by the London Ontarian

She has left me
Just like the others
She would be tortured like Lois
If I had my druthers

And if anyone says I wrote something this awful, I will deny it to my very last breath.

You guys. laugh

Helga, yours in particular had me ROTFLing. Just struck my funnybone.

And in honour of the fact that it's 4am and I have insomnia:

Wide awake
I contemplate
My little USB
Christmas tree
Atop my pc

As it glows
I slow
And yawn
And blink
And think
That maybe it's time for bed.

laugh

Hiding
From the IRC gang
Who are after my blood
Seems like
Writing for another fandom
Is some sort of dirty word

Not Lois
Nor Clark
Nor even Sexy Lex
To write another series' characters
Is an invitation
To be burned at the stake

Prithee, Wendy, tell us do
What it is you've seen
That makes you want to stray
From the best there's ever been?

Is it book or film or show
That has inspired your muse to flow?
Come on, tell us please,
'Cause enquiring minds want to know.

Well, this one does, anyway.

Oh, the weather outside is frightful
But it's not snow the fills my yard full
Instead it's rain
That is to blame
For the huge puddles and grassy potholes

(Not just boring, but a bad attempt at a limerick)

An ode to my table
How smooth, how flat
'Twould be a perfect place
To place a placemat
But, oh, what options
Hath my dreams begat
There's vinyl, there's lace,
To grace the space that
I find myself staring
So longingly at

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.

Okay, here is a bad haiku:

I run through fields of flowers
dancing and jumping
until the cliff comes.

Yeah, pretty bad huh? I have more of them somewhere in an old journal, as way back in high school in my AP Biology class, I would sit and make up haikus with this guy friend of mine during lab times. We were both kind of looney, and this is what came out. Good to know the kind of minds America's education system is producing, eh? {just kidding}

These are all great guys!

Wendy
with her mighty pen
Says she leaving
folcs again

To write for
another fandom
and write for us
when ever random

And though you know
I'll wish her well
Living with out her
will be pure hell

To The Apostrophe

-or-

An Explanation As To Why Beta-Readers Are So Wonderful

You like to move.
I know you do.
You c'ant pretend you do'nt!

I know how to use you.

I put you where you need to go.
But will you stay there?
I know you won't.

*Ahem.*

Chris

P.S. This was inspired by Wendy's catching at least one misplaced apostrophe in my latest fic. I know so much better than to make mistakes like that. wink

This is on a par with typos breeding like rabbits in the dark, the moment you close down the story file. It happens! It does! They do it all on their own and on purpose just to annoy you!
