Been trying to remember the title of a movie I saw a while back and it's driving me nuts.

Briefly - our hero's wife works somewhere in Africa - for the UN or as a missionary, something like that. While rescuing some children from a guerilla attack on their village, she is killed when her bus is hit by a landslide and pushed into a lake.

Back home, her husband is - literally - haunted by her. He sees and hears her everywhere. A young child dying of cancer tells him he sees her in his dreams and she has a message for him.

Some kind of artifact/ornament/whatever that belonged to and was important to his wife continually reappears in his apartment, no matter how many times he packs it away with the rest of his wife's stuff. Whatever this artifact is it forms the title of the movie. Emerald...something? Maybe? huh

Eventually, driven by the idea that his wife is still alive and trying to tell him something important, he travels to Africa to retrace her footsteps...

Does this sound familiar? Help!

This sounds an aweful lot like "Dragonfly (2002)"

Here's the summary from IMDB:
Quote
Joe Darrow (Kevin Costner) lost his wife, Emily (Susanna Thompson), in a bus accident in South America. It's hard for him to accept her death, but when it seems that he could move on with his life, at least, something weird happen. Mysterious symbols starts appear around him all the time, and Joe sure that Emily is beyond all this, trying to contact him and to tell him something. He goes after the clues that the symbols left, which lead him to different places. His friends think he become nuts, but he is steady with his decision to find out what's behind the symbols. When the last symbol brings him to South America, he is about to be very very surprised
His wife is a doctor who went on a medical mission to South America. The possession of his wife's that keeps reappearing no matter how many times he puts it away is a Dragonfly. The children in near death experiences keep drawing him 'waterfall symbols' refering to the place in South America where she died. She was very pregnant when she died. She is trying to tell her husband to go get their child, who somehow survived the bus crash & was saved and taken care of by the Yanomami Indians....

I hope this helps!!!
