As most of you probably know, on the evening of Wednesday, November 9th, terrorists attacked three hotels in Amman, Jordan, and the resulting explosions killed 67 people and injured more than 300. Most of the victims were family and friends attending a wedding at the Radisson Sas. News.

I can't possibly begin to describe how I feel - I can't imagine the level of depravity, the inhumanity it would take to walk into a room full of laughing people, husbands and wives, parents carrying children months old, watch a happy bride and smiling groom approach, and blow everyone and everything up. Unthinkable. Unbelievable. Unconscionable.

Thanks to everyone who checked in to ask how I am; I appreciate it more than I can say. Thankfully I and my family and friends are all OK.

The explosions were very close to home; all three hotels are within a ten minute drive of where I live. My mother is often in that area doing her rounds at hospitals; luckily on Wednesday she'd come home unusually early. My sister was in a restaurant right across the street from the Hyatt when a friend called her with news of an explosion and told her to get out of there, fast. We were very lucky. So many people were not. frown

My sympathies and prayers are with the victims and their families at this difficult time. And as for terrorists, committing inhuman crimes around the world and trying to hide behind flimsy excuses of religion or politics - they might succeed once in a while, but they will never prevail.

Was delighted to hear earlier this evening that you're all safe and well, Jo. We've been thinking about you. {{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}

Athos: If you'd told us what you were doing, we might have been able to plan this properly.
Aramis: Yes, sorry.
Athos: No, no, by all means, let's keep things suicidal.

Glad to hear that you're okay, physically if not emotionally, Jo.

What a horrible thing. I was so sorry to hear about it.

Bloody horrific what some people will do.

Glad to hear you're okay, Jo. Stay safe.

These people aren't human. They're monsters. There is no excuse for something like this. Killing innocents in the name of religion invalidates everything these people claim about their so-called faith. It's against everything Islam stands for.

It isn't Islam. It's barbarism.

Couldn't agree with you more! What's even more unbelieveable is that this small group see themselves as heroes and they believe that what they are doing is right and that supposedly they will have their sins forgiven. I've certainly never heard of any religion that condones murder in anyway shape or form.

Yeah, Nan said it exactly. frown

Jo, I'm so glad to hear that you're okay, but horrified to hear how close to home this struck for you. Reading the news, seeing the pictures... this is just horrible. We all knew that Al Qaeda is a monstrous, senseless organisation - but striking against other Arabs? Why? The only tiny spark of something positive I can see coming out of this is that it has to lose them some of of their support. Even the extremists who believe that mass murder is the way to advance their cause have to think twice at the killing of their own people. Don't they?

Thanks, everyone. I really appreciate your sympathies, more than I can say. twins

Just heard they'd identified three of the suicide bombers, and caught a fourth terrorist who was also at the Radisson Sas but didn't blow herself up.

I hope and pray that none of you ever have to experience anything like this.

Thanks again,
Jo
