Believe nothing until you see it on the screen.

I second what Tank said.
However, the story behind TW in the movie is that it will be released after Smallville's final season (which Gough says is it's fifth), and that Gough (and probably Millar) will be heavily involved with it.
To me, this basically means that it'll be Smallville: The Movie, which I'm not to happy about. But hey, if it can get the merchandise to Wally World, I guess something good can come out of it.

I won't believe it until I see an actual release notice from WB about the casting. Frankly, I don't want to see Tom Welling in the role. Blech blech, patooie. There supposedly was a casting call sent out, but I haven't seen anything after that. Double-checking that link, the info came from AICN, so I still won't trust it.

They've got a 24+ year old playing Clark Kent in his middle teens. The majority of Superman fans are probably not teenagers anymore. Why can't a late 30's guy play him Seriously, I doubt Dean would go back in the suit, but I'd give a lot to see him play Clark Kent again

hey everyone!! im new to the group and i noticed this discussion, so i thought i'd chime in. the last i heard about a superman movie was that it was scheduled or release in 2006, the director from the X-men movies was behind it, and Jake Gyllenhal was going to be Clark Kent!! Thats all for now!

Just wanted to pop in and say a WELCOME to you Crackers!!! Hope you have fun here!!! I know I do As for the whole casting issue...I really hope that Tom Wellings isn't going to be in the movie...Don't get me wrong I like him in Smallville (just barely started watching the show heehee) but I want someone older for the part..like *cough* Dean *cough* Cain. I agree with what Trenna said I doubt he would put the tights back on but, it never hurts to dream right? Later Days! Andie
Am I gay? I'm ECSTATIC!

Just keep one thing in mind as you read all this casting news. There is no script. Very few actors will sign on board without a script, unless they're working closely with the director (ie Tim Burton and Nick Cage). According to this article , Brian Singer is still working on the script. Bryan Singer, who directed the "X-Men" movies, took over the "Superman" project last month, refueling the rumor machine. He is currently at work on a script, and Warner Bros. says he hasn't begun the casting process, although it must start soon to make the target 2006 release date. Always take rumors with a grain of salt. And like I said, always wait until there's an official press release from someone, since only then will it be official.

Hey and howdy to Crackers, Scott, and MacyJane! Tom Welling would be okay, I suppose, but I don't think they'll want him (or Dean ) because they'll want someone new for the big screen. Just my guess, though. PJ

Mark Millar reports that Jim Caviezel is the next Superman Of course, Mark Millar is just a comic book writer, and not the studio itself, so take that bit of news with a HUGE grain of salt.

I would not watch the "Superman" movie if they use and actor that doesn't have a good six-pack like dean's for me to oogle at. I remember watching the other Superman movies, it was horrible. The writing of the story was horrible. Like how can Clark Kent be the disguise, that is utterly stupid. They better hire writers that have more then an averge/normal IQ.

Jen, The Superman curse is a superstition that came about when someone observed that who ever plays Superman will eventually get into an accident like the way Christopher Reed had an accient on his horse because he played Superman.

You could think of Christopher Reeve's injury as a blessing rather than a curse. His public stature as a Spinal Cord Injury patient has brought the plight of people with spinal cord injuries into the public eye (and in so doing, bringing the research my lab is famous for into the forefront and giving SCI researchers a lot more grant money, hence improving others' lives in the process). Plus, Reeve is making strides no one (including me) would have ever thought possible. (I wrote an essay on this 2 years ago, if anyone is interested ). And George Reeves killed himself. - Laura
