Some people have been talking about starting a ficathon.

Timeline:
Sign-ups can be handed in until Feb 18 (Friday)
Assignments will be handed out Feb 20 (Sunday)
Deadline: Apr 20 (Sunday, 4 weeks after the assignments are out)

Now, there's the question. If I remember correctly, the deadline for the stories was usually 4 weeks after the assignments were handed out, but if the majority of potential candidates want to have 6 weeks, I'll go for it instead.

So, next. The form you need to sign you up (copy, paste and fill out):

I want to sign up for the 2011 ficathon!
User name:

Three things I want in my story:
Three things I don't want in my story:
Preferred Season:

What I'm willing to write:
Preferred Season for writing:
Things I'm not willing to write:
I'm willing to pinch hit (Yes/No):

Anything else I need to tell you:

For easy copy and pasting:

Please note:
- If you're willing to pinch hit, I might contact you if someone else drops out of the ficathon.
- I want to organize this thing via PM. (I'm in a very active yahoogroup, and emails might get lost in my inbox.) So, please PM me with the form to sign up, and I'll reply with a PM to acknowledge this. Later, when I hand out the assignments, please write a short note back to let me know you got your assignment.
- When posting your stories, please let us know for whom it is. Also, put the guidelines of your assignments (the three wants, the three don't wants and the preferred season) at the end of your story.
- You are required to write at least 750 words. (That's about 1-2 pages, I think.) There is no upper limit, though.

This is everything I can think of right now, but I might update this post if something else turns up.

Lynn, I got your PM, but cannot reply since your inbox is full right now. (Sorry for making this public, though.)

Hi Lara,

Thanks for letting me know. I hadn't realized that the storage space for PMs was so small. I just deleted almost all of the PMs I had had stored.

Okay, we have 6 people signed up for this up to now, one of them only for pinch-hitting. I hope we can double the number, though.

I hope we can get some more people. grovel After all, we're only talking about 750 words.

BTW: Are we going to try to make these Valentine's Day stories or should we feel free to go whatever direction the requests take us?

I was assuming V-Day but that's just me. I think light V-Day shorts are just fun. (I hope my muse has another V-Day story in the pouch. smile )

I'd love to join in but I'm in over my head with the class I'm teaching. Hopefully I can join in a later round.

Well, it's not necessarily a V-day ficathon, but most people requested romance anyway, so yeah. smile

Since the due date to sign up was yesterday, does that mean we should be getting an assignment soon?? peep

Working on it right now, although I'm so used to converting our time zone to EST I simply assumed that it would be good enough within the EST day - which goes on until 6 AM our time. :p But feel free to check your inbox.

Hmm, I just noticed I'm too stupid to add a month to a date. The deadline (4 weeks after Feb 20) would be March 20, not April. blush

Would March be a problem for anybody, or do we have to delay the deadline to April now? confused

Not for me.

I saw the date error and, to be honest, didn't think it worth correcting. The plan was always 4 weeks and we started on Feb. 20.

I plan to post my ficathon story tonight. (Tomorrow at the latest.)

I think we'll be all right. My fic is written, just waiting for it to be beta-ed. I should be able to start posting some time this weekend.

It might be pushing it for me to have my story ready by 20th March to be honest, but I'll do my best. Nothing to do with the date error, it took me a while to work out what to do with my prompts. I'll get it up ASAP, but I doubt I'll need the April deadline. blush

Alisha, maybe you could divide your story into two parts and post one before the deadline?

If I can, I will. I'll see how well I'm doing closer to the deadline.
