It's been nagging me for a while, but which fic was this? I remember there being a scene on Krypton where Jor-El is sending his son into space, and he shouts "LIVE!" and hits The Big Button. Then, years later, Clark/Superman is on Earth doing...something...I forget what, but it had to do with him being afraid of having a life of his own or something.
I keep thinking of Written In The Stars, but I don't think that's it; I'd swear up and down that Kal was still sent off as a baby in this fic. Does anyone else have a clue?
