Hello, FoLCs. I would like to play a game. It's called Odd One Out - any fandom can play it, and one doesn't even need to restricted it to fanfic per se. Anyway, here's the complete rules: RULES 1. I (The Dealer) will list a certain quantity of fanfics. Just for example, let's say that number is 9. All of them have something in common. You must identify what all of them have in common.2. Of those 9 hypothetical fics, 8 will have a trait which 1 of them does not share. Again, you must identify the common trait, and which fic is the Odd One Out.3. Now that that's done, you are free to keep going. See if 7 have something in common that leaves 1 out in the cold. Of those remaining 7, what is the common ground among only 6? 4. Using this process of elimination, see how close you can get to having just 2 fics. This may or may not be possible; the dealer only has to satisfy rules 1 and 2. SCORING AND NOTES*The Dealer must find fics which share a common trait, and of which all but one share another common trait. Anything beyond this is left to happenstance. *For a good common thread, you get 2 points. E.G., "Joker And Riddler's Day Out and To The Batpole Robin are Slash Fics"*For a "given" common thread, you get no points. E.G., "Joker And Riddler's Day Out and To The Batpole Robin are both works of fanfiction." *For an incorrect common thread, you lose the round. E.G., "Joker And Riddler's Day Out and To The Batpole Robin are both Superman fanfics."*As this is just for fun, points and winning/losing mean nothing anyway. Okay, is all that clear? Any questions? Are y'all ready? I'll get the first round set up.

Okay, this sounds like fun.
I'd say that all of them are next-generation fics.

Mary, Just an Ordinary (Super) Family Did you mean Just a Normal (Super) Family by vsp? Or did you mean to give us the incorrect title - and that's the "odd one out" in the group? This looks like a difficult, albeit interesting, game.

This looks like a difficult, albeit interesting, game. Incorrect title? What incorrect title? I have no idea what you are talking about. <_< >_> *edits*

They're all stories where Clark's secret identity has been outed?

May I? Come to think of it, this is a tricky one. In fact, Superman's identity is well-known in "Just a Normal (Super) Family", and also in "The Big Debut" and "A Day In the Life". I know it's not commonly known in "Just Like Lois". (Hey, I wrote that one!). I'm not sure about "Mysteries of Life", because despite the fact it's part of the same series as "The Big Debut", it takes place about 12 (or so) years earlier, and there's nothing in the story to indicate that the cat is out of the bag. *several minutes later* Wait, I got it! It's in the first lines of "The Big Debut", actually. The "Lara nad Martha" stories take place in the alt-verse where (alt-)Clark's secret has been revealed before he ever met his Lois. So, CK=S is known way before "Mysteries of Life". Which leaves "Just Like Lois" - which also is the only one posted originally on the nfic boards. Next, there is a draw, I think. It's either "Just a Normal (Super) Family" because it's the only one not written by Queenie or it's "Mysteries of Life" because it's the only one where Lois is pregnant. Or because it's the only one where LnC do not have a son (yet). Or "A Day In The Life" because it's the only one where LnC have established a new set of identities for themselves. I think I'd rather go with "A Normal (Super) Family) as the only one not by Queenie. Next, from the last three fics, I'd take "A Day In The Life" because the other two are part of the same series (of vignettes). And the last two - well, you can't say which of two is the odd one, right?

Congrats Lara! You have hit 2! You get a cookie. Also, you can start the next round if you like (remember, you only have to account for the first couple steps). Or, you can defer that right to someone else.

Okay, I've changed my mind. Let someone else post a new set of fics. I just don't know where to start.

Well, I advise first thinking of a theme and finding fics that somehow have that, like me hunting down kidfics and then choosing mostly ones in which Clark's identity was known; but admittedly that's harder than it sounds, which is why so many of the fics I listed were my own. Does this help at all? If it's still too daunting, and if there's no other eager volunteers, then I can probably take another crack at it if you like.

Obviously, all fics where Clark and/or Lois get hammered, but I'm not sure of the "odd one out".

odd one out - exquisite corpse 2 reasons: - it's the only title that starts with a vowel - the only title that implies death - that the corpse is 'exquisite' suggests a hint of necrophilia which none of the others do <eg> c. (edit: that would be 3 reasons - still too early to be functioning on a Saturday morning)

I agree with Carol here. I didn't read through all of it, but the little bit I did read made me more than confused as there are so many different scenes that have no connection at all, and in the parts I did read, there was no "being drunk" involved, also Miranda's pheromone compound and its effects are mentioned. So, next one out: "Three Capes to the Wind" because it's the only RR? Next one: Let's take "Wrestle Me This" because it's the only one with a sequel. Of course, you can easily interchange both of them.

Of course, you can easily interchange both of them. Oh! I had forgotten 3 Capes was an RR. I'd added it too the list thinking that EC was the only multi-authored fic. It's okay, though, because 3 capes still has a unique quality to it. And actually, so does EC, CC's 6 points aside. I should point out, though, that there *is* a Beer!Drunk!Clark scene in EC.

Let me kick the next odd one out: Wine, Wine, Wine - because it's the only one where both Lois and Clark get drunk, if I remember correctly.
