There isn't much detail in the script :

Quote
LUTHOR: This is wrong. I wanted the doors off the master side balcony to be sliders. French doors make the room look smaller.

LOIS: Lex, the master bedroom is three thousand square feet. That's more than twice the size of my apartment.

LUTHOR: Well, what about the exercise area? Should we put it back on the ground floor?

LOIS: No, I think this is right. It'll be great to get out of bed and have that stair climber staring me right in the face saying 'Now, Lois. Now.'
And there's a screenshot of the blue prints. We can't see the details, but it's giant:

You know, Carol, I was thinking the same thing hehe

If she had to move heaven and Earth, perhaps come back to haunt Perry and explain the story after they'd killed her, she would do it.

Apparently I wasn't paying enough attention when watching that scene because I just realized how dirty the next line is.

3000 square ft is more than twice the area of Lois's apartment? OK, let's say that makes it more than twice and less than three times, that means that Lois's apartment is between 1000 and 1500 square feet.

I live in a flat with three main rooms, kitchen, and bathroom, and that's still only about 500 square feet. What has she got in there? A bowling alley?

And how much would that cost at city prices in a (presumably) desirable area?

To most Americans, it sounds like Marcus is living in a closet. Houses and apartments in the US are generally larger than those in Europe or Asia, especially if you're away from the big cities on either coast. You have to remember that Americans still recognize a 500 acre cattle ranch as a "small spread," and most of us have heard of the 19th-century land grant program where a farmer could receive 40 acres of farmland for no money down if he worked it for five years. Despite having over 300 million people in the US, we still expect to have lots and lots of elbow room. Comes from too many cowboy movies and too much open unclaimed land.

As far as cost goes, you could get about 1200 square feet of apartment in Dallas for less than $1500 per month, and that would be in one of the really nice complexes. If you were willing to go a bit downscale, you could pay less than a thousand.

Really? Good grief. I'd expect rent for a flat that size to be £1000+ a month in most parts of London, probably much more in the better areas.

Here's what I got from an estate agent's site for this area - fortunately I own this flat, at current prices I couldn't afford to rent

Monthly From To
Studio £520 £2167
1 Bed £780 £3033
2 Bed £953 £4117
3 Bed £1820 £6500

I'm afraid we are a little spoiled over here in the states. I live in a state where everything is fairly cheap (although it also means we don't make as much money). We rent our 1,000-square-feet one-bedroom apartment for around $800/month - and we think it's expensive and too small!

(Most of my friends have mortgages on real houses with land for less than what we rent this apartment for...I'm not sure why we still live here).

It really does depend on the location. I live in Orange County and when I tell people that my roommates and I rent a 3 bedroom, 1000 sq ft apartment for $1550 a month, their jaws drop and they ask how we found such a great deal.

Wow. Anna.

Our old house was 960 sq ft [3b/1ba] and about 550-600/mo depending on insurance/taxes at the time.

Our current house is 2500 sq ft, 4b, 3 bath, 3 living areas on half an acre for about 1100.

But we're in the Midwest where things tend to be cheaper.

Clark's apartment on Clinton - in 1994 was 950, until the guy dropped it to 900 iirc. Lois' was probably in a better area of town so more expensive there and Clark's was probably nicer once he got done with it than it had ever been before he got there. Not sure how many square feet it was. I've never been able to get a good handle on the layout of Lois' apartment to guess on that one, but say 1200 [to make it 'more than twice'] sounds really high. Of course, I also thought Clark's bathroom was under the loft/area with the red stairs until recently so... And I'm still not sure where his closets are - the one with the tie rack, where Perry hides in the Rival, etc.

I would imagine that Lois' apartment is a two-bedroom with a large living room. (It would have to be rather large to hide the missing fourth wall where they put the television camara.) It would make sense that it's a 2-bedroom since it didn't seem to be a big deal when Lucy lived there and it didn't seem like it was too large when Lucy moved out. With 1200-1400 sf there might even be some nice storage space.

BTW, this is why I tell my kids that we're rich, even though we're just peaking into "middle class." We have a house, 2 cars, more bicycles than riders, a variety of clothing, a change of shoes and scads of food in the pantry. We're rich. We just don't look like it because we're Americans.

LOL, Beth. Okay, so one of the cars is a van and I *do* practically live there. Actually the vehicle's occupant was just recently evicted. When I took the van in to find out why the AC wasn't working they mentioned it might be because of the mouse's nest built into the filter. Agggghh! and Yuck! dizzy Then they asked me if I wanted the filter unit removed and replaced. Heck, yeah! I live there (in my 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom minivan with the view of the golf course on the other side of the creek).
