Hi. I am an old Lois and Clark fan who is just now discovering the fandom on the internet. I'm a big fanfic reader in other fandoms and I would love to explore fics in this one as well. However, I'm not really sure where to begin. I've surfed through lcfanfic.com, and while I'm sure that it's a comprehensive archive, I'm having a difficult time sorting which fics I might want to read because some of the descriptions are a tad vague.

So I was wondering if the good visitors of this MB would have specific recommendations for me. I'd love to read fics set in S3 and beyond, but I'd prefer that L&C not have children in it. I normally like angsty pieces with happy resolutions. I'm currently in the middle of reading In a Dark Time by Becky Bain and I'm enthralled. I also remember coming across Crystal Wimmer's With a Little Help... a year ago and enjoying it.

If anyone would be so kind as to recommend their favourite fics that meet those criteria to me, I'd be very grateful. Thank you!

I would probably recommend going through the Kerths winners first. If you love angst, each year there's a category for best angst or best dramatic story. You can find the stories at http://www.lcfanfic.com/kerth.html . Those stories are an excellent place to start. laugh

Welcome to the boards, Incognito! It's always great to have another FoLC among us. This is a great fandom with tons of really nice people and wonderful writers, so I think you're going to like it here. laugh

It's hard to know where to begin when recommending fanfic because there are so many good stories out there, but I'll give it a try. smile

When Friends Become Lovers and When Lovers Become More are set in s2, but they're realationship stories so they sort of have a s3 vibe to them. There's a trailer for When Friends Become Lovers here .

In Dreams by Kaylle is probably my favorite story ever. It's an Alt-Clark story so I'm not sure what season it would be considered. Probably s4. There's a trailer here if you want to take a look. (I made that one. laugh )

And the mother of all long, angsty stories would be Masques by LabRat, which is a rewrite of the non-wedding arc in s3. It's also one of my favorites, and it was the original trailer here .

Another set of stories I just read was CC Aiken's Through the Window , and And Back Again . Both are wonderful stories set around s3 that deal with both our Lois and Clark, and the Alt-Lois and Clark. As far as I know there's no trailer, but... *ponders*... maybe there should be. Oh sheesh I may have just given myself another project to work on. (No promises, guys!! Not when I've got Sara and Rachel hounding me about two different vids. Daring me, even. *G*)

All of those stories are available on the archive, but the first three also have versions on the nfic archive at annesplace.net .

Like Karen said, the Kerth nominees and winners are always a good place to start too. thumbsup

I second Anna's recommendations! Another really angsty story is Wendy Richards' For the Greater Good . Lois and Clark have children, but the story is really, really, really good.

Hey, welcome, Incognito! Good to have you here. thumbsup

The others have given you some great recommendations - yes, start with the Kerths, yes, the stories listed are well worth reading. smile (By the way, Anna, I believe someone has done or is doing a trailer for TTW/ABA - though more than one is no bad thing! wink ).

You could always track authors, too, Incognita. Sheila Harper specialises in S3/4 and beyond fic and most of her stories don't include children. Nan Smith and Jenni Debbage also write a lot of post-S4 fic, though in their stories in that category Lois and Clark have children. If you read nfic, try Kathy Brown's Winners.

Yvonne Connell also writes mostly post-S3 fic and only one of her stories involves children. wink Most of hers involve the alt-world, but not all. I especially recommend Purity, Addicted and Damaged.

Then, if you'll broaden your horizons, wink there are many more great authors to check out, besides those already mentioned. Shayne Terry. AnnieM (especially the Playing series). Carol Malo. Chris Carr. Irene Dutch. Tank Wilson. Kaethel. Aria. ML Thompson. Chris Mulder (don't miss Love Beyond All Measure and Dimensions of Loving! Both are late S2 stories). Pam Jernigan. Erin Klingler (who is also a published novelist notworthy ). Meredith Knight. Mobile Richard. Hazel. Demi. And I'm sure many more that I'm blanking on right now - I'll be back to edit this post to add more, I'm sure.

Oh, and Laura: thank you. blush

Anything by Nan Smith or Jenni Debbage. Anything by Irene Dutch, especially In Cat's Corner. Absolutely anything by Zoomway. Also try Mobile Richard, Margaret Brignell, Chris Mulder, Phil Atcliff, Jeff Brogden, Raconteur, Sheila Harper, Shayne Terry, Ann McBride, Cindy Leuch, Aria, and then start searching the archive. I'd recommend Yvonne Connell's Purity for a dark post season four story, but I have to admith that otherwise, I'm not fond of her characterizations of Clark. Try LabRat's Sugar and Spice for a hilarious take on what the spacerat stuff *could* have done, and KathyB is also good.

Anything and everything by Wendy, Kaethel, KATHYB, Demi, Yvonne, Labrat. There are so many others I can think of but just can't post all their names.

There are those that I am not fond of, but that is up for you to decided so they are not worth mentioning.

Incognito, after the show ended, a number of authors wrote a season five and a season six for Lois and Clark. That was how I first started reading Lois and Clark fanfic. You can find these stories here:

Season Five and Six Stories

(Hope the link works. I've never posted a link before laugh )

Anyway, it was a great starting point for me. Followed by reading Kerth winners (mentioned above)

Wow. I certainly didn't expect this wonderful a response. Thank you so much to everyone for your recommendations. You've definitely given me a great list from which to begin.

BanAnna, I have to give you special props for suggesting the trailers. I've never seen trailers for fanfic in my travels across other fandoms and the first couple I downloaded were so exciting that I went ahead and viewed more. They're a great way to get some background on what a fic will be about, indeed, and I'm so glad they exist. Thank you very, very much!

Ultra Woman, I also really, really appreciate the fact that you went through all the trouble of getting the links. That was a very kind, helpful and detailed post.

I truly am grateful to all of you.

You're very welcome, Incognito. laugh

Pelican is the genious behind the idea for fanfic trailers, but a few of the rest of us have taken the idea and run with it. It's something that's unique to our fandom (at least, I've never heard of any other fandom doing it) and they're tons of fun. thumbsup

Finally got around to reading TTW/ABA, and that was fantastic writing. I'd be so happy to see a trailer for them, if ever you find yourself in the mood to work on one, Anna. smile
