Okay, this may seem like a silly question, but please bear in mind I've lived a relatively sheltered life.

Do big cities have brothels?

I'm refering specifically to U.S. cities in which prostitution is illegal. Would they actually have a whole building somewhere, or do people just sneak around apartments?

Also, assuming this is a seedy area in a very large city, would said brothel be inconspicuous to avoid unwanted attention from the law, or would they have neon signs up etc. because nobody cares?

I think I remember a recent news story about a brothel being shut down someplace in Minneapolis.

That's the oldest profession and yes is illegal.

Does kinds of places are everywhere. There countries that have whole streets of them.

Sometime that's the back door business of strip clubs, store that sell sex article, movies or just a street they walk.

And police know about them. They come they arrest everyone close the place and when thing cool back to business again.

Yes prostitution is illegal in the US however any city here has an area where the hookers hang out on the street soliciting. There are also in a lot of cities certain bars where you can go to pick up a hooker. In the US we have call girls and escort services (both for mean and women to hire dates). In theory escort services are just suppose to be "dates" no sex but in most cases it can be had for an extra fee. Also "massage parlors" were big at one time. They were really sex shops.

When I was in college I remember passing one every day where there was so much steam in the place that the windows fogged over so they had the girls wiping them down. Of course they did it in a very suggestive manner and they wore the tinniest of shorts and tub tops.

Oh, in some hotels I will assume that you can call down to the Bell Captain or (Concer...(Sp?)
and get a call girl. I say this because of personal experience. I live in a resort town and use to work Night Audit at a 250 room Sheraton. One night I had a male guest call down looking for a man on duty. I told him sorry only woman on duty other than security. He then proceeded to ask me how he could get some company for the night. I told him I had no idea it wasn't a service we provided. But the way he asked me I know he had done this before. He wasn't joking, nor was he embarrassed.

I know they use to have brothels and I'm sure they still do in some places. However they would be more in areas where you have a lot of wealth, ie. New York, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles to name a few. Also they would be run as "private clubs". You would have to know someone who knew about it and knew how to get in. The cops here in most places don't turn a blind eye or take pay-offs like they use to for prostitution.
