So I've been reading The Girl Next Door , and just got to a segment that mentions how impossible it would be for Clark to duck out to be Superman if he was a lawyer or surgeon, etc. So this got me thinking:

What if, instead of reporters, Lois and Clark were doctors or lawyers? laugh (Or maybe one of each, as in the Cosby show. wink )

IIRC there is a fic in the archive where Clark is a Doctor.

/me imagines Clark as a surgeon:

Doctor Kent is wrapped up in a heart surgery when suddenly he stops and has a far-away look. Nurse Lane looks at him in alarm. "Doctor, please, not now..."

"Hold that heart, I'll be right back."

"What?"

A sonic boom shatters the hospital windows...
laugh

"Lifeflight" was quite a good fic, as I recall. And Clark does face some of the problems involved with "running out".

SPOILER WARNING (actually, I'm not sure it's a big spoiler, but just in case)

I believe that in the fic he's primarily a research doctor who picks up some shifts in the emergency department, so his schedule is irregular to begin with, which helps.

In An Extraordinary Man (and its sequel) by Chris Carr, Clark is a DA. The sequel is especially delightful.

He can blame sudden exits on his pager. Which I thought was a neat idea. Great story. Reread it recently.
