This one's for everyone out there who thinks Wells messes too much with the time line.
How about H.G. Wells discovering that creating Utopia isn't all that easy. And since fixing the same universe over and over again could cause his own timeline to get messed up since he could run into his younger self, etc, if he has to go back and start over, instead he goes into the next universe once he screws up the current one up beyond fixing. And so on and so on until eventually he starts to treat Lois and Clark like a game, with the goal being to get them to live happily ever after. And since we're talking L&C here, things aren't simple and he has to try all sorts of things, crazy, not so crazy, mean, friendly, gets bored and messes them up just for fun once or twice, etc. etc.
