What if?

Instead of Clark asking Lois, being turned down, and than going to see her as Superman...

Lois asked Superman first, got turned down and than later Clark asked her?

If Clark had not already been hurt by being turned down and told to send Superman around, he might have been much nicer in saying NO to Lois.

If Lois had already been hurt by beng turned down by Superman she might have treated Clark differently.

Okay, Patrick, I keep looking at this... and looking... and looking...

If I had a clue as to what you were talking about, I'd try to comment. Can you explain further??

I'm assuming Patrick means to ask:

What if, in the episode Barbarians at the Planet, Lois had asked Superman if there was a chance for them romantically before Clark had made his declaration of love in the park?

It's an interesting thought, and I'm wondering how it'd play out. Would Clark even have the guts to lay it all on the line if she'd asked Superman for a romantic relationship? Maybe he would if he thought it was his last chance before she married Luthor. Dunno. Hard to imagine.

Good idea, though! smile

Sara (who would read this, but hasn't the time to write it :p )

I'm reading it as this:

In the episode where Clark proposes, beautifully but desperately, to Lois, while she is dating Lex Luthor... What if, instead, events happen in this order:

First, Lois asks to see Superman. (Before Clark says anything to her about being in love with her.)

Superman shows up at her place; she confesses her love, asks if there's any hope, etc.

Clark, as Superman (and wanting her to love him as Clark), turns her down. But gently.

She's bummed. Majorly.

Clark then comes to see Lois as "the ordinary man", and confesses his love (probably much as in the episode).

Lois, having been hurt by Superman's response, reacts to Clark.

And then...

EDIT: Ah, I see Sara got in with an answer first! smile

I actually never thought about it this way and there has probably been no story telling it either.

There's just one thing you might not expect when you change the turn of events. If Lois propositions Superman before Clark can admit his feelings to her, then he won't do so after the fact either. That in turn may change exactly nothing for the original storyline because Lois may still be agreeing to Lex' proposal. The only questionable is her friendship with Clark and there are probably some stories out there where they remain friendly throughout her engagement.

That is my point of view on this change of events.

Sorry if I am blind and missed it, but is anyone working on anything for this challenge?

I've converted to lurk-ism... hopefully only temporary.

There is a story out there where Clark convinces her to marry him instead of Lex. She doesn't know he is Superman. Lex then starts a campaign of trying to discredit Clark but presenting her with false proof of him having an affair while their married. Can't remember the rest but it is a story.
