Gang....Here's my challenge to you:

I have recently purchased a 2004 Volvo S60...terribly comfortable,
terribly staid, terribly safe etc etc. It has the most amusing
feature I've seen in ages--the Dope Slap headrests in the back.

Both the front and back seats have large luxurious headrests
contoured to keep the head safe and from rolling side to side should
a passenger fall asleep. As part of the acknowledged design, when
passengers are in the back seat, the view out the back window is
partially obscured by their heads and the headrests. But when
passengers are not in the back seat, thought the designers, why
should a driver's vision be impeded by unused headrests? Thus, the
dope-slap headrest was created---a spring loaded mechanism that flips
the headrests forward and down by pressing a button on the driver's
console.

Now stop and consider the humorous and dangerous side
effects here. You are driving the car and someone is seated in the
rear heckling you, fighting with his/her sibling, or holding a gun to
your back...You surreptitiously press the headrest button and THWAP!
the headrest nails him/her on the head with enough force to stun them
momentarily. It gave me quite an OUCH! when my husband tried it on
me. I've been marveling over it's potential plot uses for the two months since I've had the car.

So get yourselves to a Volvo dealer to do the research and write
something with this baby. Because I can't stop laughing and I know
someone's gonna have a field day with it

I wonder how long it'll be before the consumer groups force them to recall all those "dangerous" headrests, and have each volvo owner come in to have the headrests replaced for free...
rotflol

But you're right, the potential uses someone like, say, Lois could get out of thwap-delivery headrests!!

I hope one of our talented folcs comes up with a story!

Strange. Is this Dope Slap headrest a new invention?

When my parents drove a Mecedes Benz Sedan years ago, I remember that that the head rests of the passengers had some sort of a mechanism too. You'll have to manually put the headrest up. But there's a button you press which causes the headrest to swing backwards and downwards, and it lands with a satisfying "thud". I'd driven my parents crazy a few times just by playing with the headrests. *grin*
