well, you squished my heart beneath your shoes, too! Over and over. This breaks my heart, it just gets to the heart of this issue so beautifully and truthfully.
Filled with numbers and figures and reams of data that he couldn't understand. Couldn't begin to understand but for the way they blurred behind his closed eyelids. For what he knew them to mean.
No.
They meant no.
It's just amazing how you start with this piece of paper filled with words, medical terms, numbers. Cold facts. And from that show how much cold hard facts, words, numbers... can hurt. Those four words "No. They meant no" are just so amazing. And then what follows - what "no" means to him.... it's heartbreaking. Really, truly heartbreaking.
You've written this so sensitively and beautifully. Fantastic story, Dave.
