I know next to nothing about cars, let alone how their distance calculations work, but I do know my bicycle and it's components pretty intimately and I know that when I buy a new speedometer for it I have to input the circomference of my tire into the computer so that it can calculate the milage just like Paul explained. Wow, that was a long sentance.
