I do think we need to remember, though, that there's a huge range here in writing experience and ambition. These kind of discussions are great for those of us who are interested in this kinda thing, but for a lot of people, they're beside the point. They (we) write for fun, not to satisfy literary editors somewhere, and I wouldn't want to make anyone feel inferior over something like adverbs
