Autumn Dragon

The silver autumn moon rises slowly,
as a ranger spies a dragon resting
among burnished gold, bronze, and copper leaves.
The dragon's scales shimmer like colored gems
in every hue from red to violet.
As the ranger gasps in astonishment,
the dragon opens his glittering eyes
and regards the mortal with amusement
for what surely seems like eternity.
