Simple question, so many answers...
Posted By: Sue S. Re: Why? - 12/21/06 11:49 PM
When I got done laughing so hard it HURT - I had to pick other because you didn't put in "all of the above".

Thanks, Paul. I haven't laughed that hard since my sister said (in all seriousness), "Superman's an alien? But he looks so human!"

In the end, my answer must be "why not?" evil

ETA: I forgot "I was young, I needed the money..." Sometimes that's why, too.

Yeah! I protest!

I also object that while there were (at least) two (well, really three, but one was a Simpson's reference as well) SG-1 references, I saw none to SGA.

My suggestion: "Was I not supposed to?"

(Although it's really not the same without those innocent blue eyes:

Posted By: TOC Re: Why? - 12/22/06 01:12 AM
It had to be 42, of course, which is the answer to life, the universe and everything. My second choice would be my utility belt, except that it would have to be Batman's utility belt, which, at least on the old Adam West TV series, contained the answer to everything.

But Paul, you should have included that book of wisdom that is forever consulted by Hewie, Lewie and Dewie, or whatever Donald Duck's nephews are called in English. (In Swedish they are Knatte, Fnatte and Tjatte, and that book of wisdom they consult is called Gröngölingsboken, the Book of Greenhorns). Really, what is it called in English?

Posted By: HatMan Re: Why? - 12/22/06 01:15 AM
Yeah, I forgot a couple of things.

Completely forgot about SGA.

Also forgot Star Trek. "Don't mind him. He did a little too much LDS back in the 60s..."

"All Of The Above" is a good one, too. Wish I'd thought of that.

As for making it 4 options as opposed to 8, 37, or 51... Why not? wink

EDIT: TOC wrote in while I was posting this. Can't say I recall anything about Donald's nephews having a book of wisdom, though I do recall an episode of Duck Tales where they explored a temple created by the ancient Thinkas (or is that Thincas?).

Oh, crumb. I also completely forgot "Reply hazy. Ask again later." *sigh* Am I going to have to do this all again?
Posted By: TOC Re: Why? - 12/22/06 03:10 AM
Hah! I found it. (Bless Wikipedia.) It's the Junior Woodchucks Guidebook, which, even though it is a small paperback book, contains the answer to every Who, How, When, Where, Whither and Wherefore that you can think of. When I was a kid, I so much wanted a Junior Woodchucks Guidebook for myself! goofy

And the names of Donald's nephews are spelled Huey, Dewey and Louie, as pretty much all of you already knew, I'll wager.

So, Paul, with the help of Batman's utility belt, the Junior Woodchucks Guidebook and a penguin or two, most of us should be able to deal with whatever life may throw at us! smile

Oh yeah! Now I remember! It was their version of the Boy Scouts. That was a lot of fun.

I wonder if Huey Lewis (who took his stage name from them) has one...

LOL!!!

I voted 'other', and here's why:

Because it was there.

Narf 42 penguins in my utility belt.

what a great set of answers! laugh

Thank you, Paul, that was the lighthearted fun I needed in my day.

I wanted to pick Keanu and the Midnight Bomber, but I was waiting for 42 the whole time, so I couldn't possibly pass that up. Hysterical poll! rotflol

I swear, only FoLCs could come up with an actual definitive answer to this question. LOL!

Did we have, "I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you?" laugh

No, we did not. I started that one, but decided I didn't like it. So we ended up with "I'd tell you, but then I'd have to force-feed you this pile of jelly beans while fourteen llamas and a platypus..." which seemed more fun.

Meantime, I keep remembering/thinking of other answers that should have been included.

"Kneel before Zod!"
"The name is Bond. James Bond."
"Because I am Superman, and I can do anything."

There were more, too, but I'll stop wracking my poor brain now.

Hmm. Does that mean you chose "other" because the option was there, or you chose "other" because the answer you wanted to give was "because it was there"? (Either way, that probably should have made the list...)

ML, don't worry. There are no wrong answers. And if 42 really was the answer, then we'd know the question, and that would have some unfortunate consequences...

So many answers, so few opportunities to choose. Though it does bring to mind one of the fun things on a talker I'm on. The Magic8Ball.

You ask the Magic8Ball 'why?'
-> The Magic8Ball replies .oO( Why not? )Oo.
You ask the Magic8Ball 'why not?'
-> The Magic8Ball replies .oO( Because! )Oo.
You ask the Magic8Ball 'because why?'
-> The Magic8Ball replies .oO( I won't talk to you unless you've 'jumped' with me. )Oo.

Luckily the 8ball does not hate me today, or it could have gotten ugly. goofy

Oh, but when I think about it, I agree that the answer has to be 42. That means I got the wrong answer! laugh

I'm just kidding around with you, Paul. I know there are no wrong answers... (even if the right answer really is 42 wink )

Teehee! Great poll! laugh

I only picked two answers:

"Why not?" The first thing that springs to mind whenever I'm asked this question. Also, the first thing that sprang to mind at the moment I saw the poll listed in the section. *g*

And, "42". Because I couldn't NOT click that.

Other ideas... hmm, you had "Because!" but you didn't have "Because I said so!" Though it's pretty much the same thing, I guess.

"Because life's a b****"/"Because that's life"?

Also, the two most popular Greek answers:

Q: Γιατί; ("Why?")

Α1: Για να ρωτάς εσύ. ("So that you ask." I.e., to make you ask why.)

A2: Γιατί η γάτα έχει ένα αυτί. ("Because the cat has one ear.")

They rhyme. laugh

Peanut butter jelly time.

I'm craving that, chocolate and mango-pineapple juice so I thought it would be fitting.
Posted By: LaraMoon Re: Why? - 12/23/06 07:10 PM
LOL! That was totally hilarious!

I'd already decided on my answer before I read through them all - else I would have picked 42...

I picked other. My answer (which is actually my answer to a lot of things these days) is:

It's a Superman thing, you just wouldn't understand.

(mind you, yes, people here *would*...)
Posted By: jojo_da_crow Re: Why? - 12/27/06 12:03 PM
woah... how did i respond to this? haha wrong post.

But I went and read your poll after I responded to this thread instead of another... and I have to say that it is the penguins...

smile1 But I really wanted "I'd tell you, but I'd have to kill you." It was my raison de etre.
Is there a way to recover what we voted, because I can't remember except for the one about NASA and, of course, 42!

laugh Glad you liked.

As for "but I'd have to kill you...", like I said above, I thought about it but wanted to keep it more lighthearted. That's why I had the thing with the jelly beans and the llamas and stuff. Sorry to disappoint.

Also as mentioned above, there are a lot of answers I forgot or just didn't think of. But, you know... there are over 70 answers in total. I forget the exact number I picked, but it was something high up in the double digits. "42!" is answer/option #42, if that gives you any idea.

As for recovering your vote... Not that I know of. The boards only remember who voted and what the current totals are. I don't think they keep the actual votes. Guess you'll just have to go back and reread the answers...

Oh, and while I'm writing... Woody mentioned "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" before the crash. Someone else mentioned it a few posts up. It was a song that became an animation that became an internet fad a while back, though I missed out on it at the time. For more info (and links to the animation), you can check the Wiki article here .

No disapointment there; I probably take it more lightly than most because I'm weird. It was truly fun.

Yeah, my idea for using a personality test based on one's answer to this question got lost.

I'll repost one of my lines
