She only felt a hollow disconnect .
Discontent?

Clark checked his watch. “I really should get going.” He gently squeezed her upper arm. “Merry Christmas, Mayson.”
Ah, poor Mayson. Ever unrequited love.

Thanks, Crystal. Beautiful fic!

This so reminded me of yesterday evening.

We went to the late mass on Christmas Eve at about 11 pm. It was dark (of course) and quite foggy. Our church is on a little hill and when we approached it, we were greeted by "Silent Night". It was played by two trumpets. The trumpeters were standing on the tower and called the people to church. This was just so romantic.

I love the christmas spirit in your story.

Thanks for sharing,

this was a beautiful story.

I think what Angel was trying to say was that her main character (who we all thought was Lois! bad, bad Angel!) felt disconnected from everything around her, as if she were cut off from the other people she passed as she walked. "Discontent" certainly wouldn't have been a wrong choice, but "disconnect" suggests a feeling of isolation and aloneness.

Very nice vignette! And I was fooled until the end, too, but it was a nice surprise to see Mayson going through that process. She was one of my favorite secondary characters on the show, and I kinda wish they'd kept her around a little longer.

Thank you for the very sweet Christmas present.

Very nice, even though I thought it was Lois who wandered into the church.

Merry Christmas...Happy Hannukkah!

This was really good. I also thought it was Lois at first.

And yeah, "disconnect" works well--a perfect description of Mayson's feelings.

ah... dang... it was Mayson? *lol* Ok... I hate Mayson... I thought it was Lois. LOL!

That being said..... it was a really great little vignette! Very moving and very powerful. Loved it. (of course, you know, I might save this to my hard drive and re-write the end a little. hehehe!)

Well done! smile Merry Christmas!

Hi, guys! *blinks in amazement* Y'all are too kind, I swear. All this lovely feedback spoils me, you know. laugh And ... *dons evil hat* I'm really, really glad most of you thought it was Lois till the end.

Classicalla, I appreciate the sharp eyes! Though I did mean "disconnect," you're right — "discontent" could also work well in its place.

Basaki, what a wonderful Christmas Eve you must've had! Thank you so much for sharing such a beautiful, moving story.

Terry, there's no need to thank me — thank *you* for reading! I figured you'd enjoy the Mayson nod. wink I think she's my favorite secondary character, too.

Sheila, C_A and Lara, thank you guys so much for reading, and for your lovely comments. I hope you weren't too disappointed at the end. smile1

Again, thank you all so much, and I hope everyone has a terrific holiday!

And she was thankful. So, so thankful.

She’d just wanted to feel something. And right now, she felt so much more than something — she felt grateful for absolutely everything.

This was what Christmas was supposed to feel like.
I get this feeling listening to "O Holy Night" myself. It is my favorite Christmas song.

A great little vignette that could fit right in with Season's Greedings!

"O Holy Night" is my favorite Christmas song too! Especially when I get to sing it. smile

Great fic!
