This sounds like Lois isn't really the original Lois at all. Clark's Lois is actually a time traveling stand-in for the original Lois Lane that was killed. But then again, if this replacement Lois was the Lois that was destined to fall in love with Clark, then this Lois is the real Lois and the original Lois might have had a very different destiny.
At least that's the way I read it.
This brings to mind Heinlein's famous, "All You Zombies."
