wow.
I had expected something, but not that. good thing the baby's healthy. bad thing that Lois is in such distress. and Clark totally lost brain function, but then, seeing your wife and child about to die before your eyes can have that effect.
Post the next part, quick!

The baby's healthy. You certainly surprised me there. But what about Lois? Hurry up with the next part. You really know how to choose your cliff hangers. Julie

I just had a friend that went through this and almost died. They had to do surgery twice. Her Placenta was still inside her and the jerks left it there for 2 days until she was toxic. Then when they went to remove it, something went wrong and they had to give her a hysterectomy. The next day she started bleeding internally. Seems they severed an artery and had to go operate again to close it. She is Ok and has 2 children but what a law suit that is going to be.she is only 32 and could have had more kids but someone screwed up big time. Anyway thank goodness both baby and Mom are Ok. this fic better turn out that way as well<g> Laura

Hi, Great part.

Laura An excellent part! I can definitely see Clark going into shock. This is Lois and his baby not an unknown person in need of help. Lois is his wife and partner in every sense of the word. If anything happens to Lois it would destroy him. I can understand Martha, Jonathan and Ellen not knowing how to help him. Luckily Ellen turned up and could answer the necessary questions. I can sense her regret at not resolving issues with Lois. I’m thoroughly enjoying this. Tricia

Thanks for commenting, Pam, Julie, Laura, Maria, Tricia, and Jose! I can definitely see Clark going into shock. This is Lois and his baby not an unknown person in need of help. Lois is his wife and partner in every sense of the word. If anything happens to Lois it would destroy him but then, seeing your wife and child about to die before your eyes can have that effect. I am glad this part went over well. It is actually the theme to the whole story, the function of the amygdala. The baby's healthy. You certainly surprised me there I think I surprised almost everyone! God, Laura, that is a horrible story . I hope she is doing okay now, although she may never e emotionally well. My story was inspired by my grandmother who went through a hysterectomy because of uterine cancer, and I didn't want to give Lois cancer. Thanks for posting although you weren't feeling well yesterday Thanks, Jose . Actually I've been sick for about a week with a bad case of either bronchitis or the flu according to webmd . I actually got out of bed for a few hours today, so I am celebrating by posting the next part early! Get back don't torture me Okay, I'll post in a few minutes!

Thank goodness the baby's OK. That had me scared for a bit.
But poor Lois. I am wondering why nobody did something earlier. Martha knew Clark had a feeling of foreboding. Then so did Martha and Jonathan. I'm surprised they didn't try to at least bring Sam over to check her out. With so many people having these premonitions, someone should have acted.
At least Ellen was there. Ellen is also a nurse, I'm rather surprised she didn't try to take a more active role in trying to help her daughter.
Poor Clark. Completely unable to help, seeing his worst nightmare coming true, perhaps.
Now all we have to do is fix Lois (ouch, no pun intended).
Off to read part 3...

The way I saw this was that Clark felt like there was something wrong. Martha and Jonathan knew Clark thought there was something wrong. Clark is overprotective (at least that is how I portrayed him in this story). He always thinks that something is wrong if Lois even does something as benign as winces in pain because she stubbed her toe (just as an example). Martha thinks he's gone off the deep end. Lois thinks he's gone off the deep end.
Why didn't they call Sam? I never understand why they did call Sam in the show. He hasn't really practiced medicine in years! Plus, he was a surgeon. He wouldn't be a specialist in obstetrics. He would have been able to look at Lois, but who's to say that he would see anything either? I would be more inclined to tell them to try to get an appointment with her OB or her personal physician.
As for Ellen, the same thing as Sam. She hasn't been a nurse for years. From what I could tell on the show, she seemed pretty retired. Yes, she probably knew a lot from her training, but was she really in any position to do anything? What more could she have done, getting there just as the ambulance did, and most likely never being a trauma nurse. In my experience, EMTs are very skilled in emergency medical procedures. Lois was very safe with them. When she got to the hospital, they were content to let the emergency room doctors and nurses work on Lois. Ellen wouldn't be any help in the trauma room. From what a doctor friend of mine said, they aren't really supposed to work on family members in that kind of situation because it is almost a conflict of interest.
I don't know, that's just my logic on the topic.
