More cuteness.... but the open pediatrics slot in Smallville is certainly an interesting little factoid...

“Does it ever get busy?” I asked.

Martha laughed. “No, not really. The biggest things that ever pop up in the ER here are farming related injuries or children swallowing toys.”

“It must be so different,” Chad mused. “It must be so calm.”

Jonathan nodded. “I would think so, too.”

“Do you have a lot of doctors here?” I asked.

Martha shrugged. “There are a few at the hospital but most major things get referred to doctors in Wichita. We have two family doctors in town, but no specialists. Dr. Blum, the pediatrician in town when Clark was a child, retired a few years ago and I don't think anyone took his place. I think Dr. Skeptel takes all the kids now. And we're too small a town to get any other specialists.”
I can hear Chad saying to Lois, "Honey, don't you think I could... don't you think we could...?"

I agree with Lieta, this entire chapter was completely adorable and utterly feel-good. I was giggling about this:

“I bet you were a cute little boy,” I said to Clark.

“Oh, I could show you pictures,” Martha said.

“But you won't, will you, Mom?” Clark asked. “Didn't you get that all out of your system when you showed Rachel?”
I can imagine the adorable pictures of a naked little Clark! Hey, Lara Moon has already written the naked baby Clark fic of all naked baby Clark fics. I wonder if it was called The Yellow Towel? Martha had been giving Clark a bath, and she wrapped him in a yellow towel, but his little bottom was peeking out! laugh

Wel, the chapter was lovely, but I can imagine complications looming at the horizon!

She turned around to lead us into the house. I turned to Chad and he grinned at me. Clark was right – I was going to like his mother. It was clear that like me, she was a bundle of energy. In fact, I thought she might even make me look sedentary.
Interesting. Of course, we already know this Lois is a bit more settled down, but still. To suddenly have Lois be the one with less drive laugh

And the pediatrician sure was a BIG hint. I have no idea how this is ending Or how I would want this to end. You're evil, Nancy.

Sorry I fell off the face of the Earth again. I feel like things are getting busier and busier. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that after the holidays things will slow down, although that is only part of being busy nowadays.

I didn't expect too many people to miss the open pediatrics slot in Smallville, but don't expect Chad to decide not to go back to Metropolis. His wife does have a job at the Daily Planet...

Thanks, Sara!

Sorry, Ann - no naked Clark pictures here. At least not yet. wink

Michael - I don't actually picture Martha having more drive than Lois, just that she's a bundle of energy. To be fair, I don't even really picture Martha as having more energy than this Lois. It's more Lois' perception since she's never met anyone with as much energy as she has.
