Chapter 6 lives here. And here's the TOC.C'mon, y'all didn't think I'd let them kiss this early? Someone mentioned that there were quite a few new characters to track in this, so I thought a little character list might just help, with some of the details we know so far, especially as we are starting to get to the point of suspecting different people and creating suspect lists. I'll go back and add this into the TOC, as well, so no one needs to remember that this list lives in chapter 6. New Character Guide- Dr. Kent Weeks - director of the Theban Mapping Project, a bit aloof, not keen on having reporters around, glasses and white bucket hat
- Dr. Rupert Carnahan - language expert (like an epigrapher), basically an assistant director, on loan from American University at Cairo for the year, beard, walks with a limp, friends with Perry White
- Dr. Bashir Amin - artifact expert (a ceramicist, but also the conservator and essentially the Finds Manager, too), basically an assistant director, long-time partner at the project, associated with the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, short but moves quickly
- Zaid - foreman of the excavation team, works primarily with the director team, college educated
- Wahid - member of the excavation team, terse and grumpy, bigger physique, cares for his family
- Gamal - member of the excavation team, soft-spoken, introverted and shy, artist
- Abo - member of the excavation team, friendly, he feeds the crew!
Enormous thanks to 90stvfangirl who kindly agreed to beta this story! As always, I look forward to any thoughts or comments (or guesses on the bad guy)! Thanks for reading!
Looking forward to this summer's Location Challenge! Looks like stories are due around August 1st, and then polls open for voting! And don't forget about the 2026 fundraiser! Head over to the Fundraising page to donate or consider adding a story to the Keepsake Collection fundraising drive!

Egypt, mysteries and WAFF. I'm loving this story! The plot thickens. I don't have a prime suspect yet. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys/sherlocksmile.gif) Did a mummy curse Lois and Clark? That would be bad, because Clark is vulnerable to magic and the supernatural. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys/evilcookiesmiley.gif) Why, oh why, did Gamal have to arrive at *that* moment? ![[Linked Image]](http://expert2.be/smilie/pix/frustration.gif) More! More! Andreia

“Here is your tent.”
Lois glanced at the tent and then back to Zaid. “Whose? Mine or his?”
“Yes, yours. His. Both,” Zaid confirmed.
Situations that the second-person pronoun in English gives us. "Lois, we’ve fallen asleep in the same place dozens of times. On my couch. On stakeouts. In your Jeep. That one time in the conference room,” he reminded her. “Why is this different?”
Well... But her apprehension was her own baggage, and not enough of a reason to banish Clark to the mosquitos and scorpions and whatever else was out in the dark.
How thoughtful of her. “Lois.” She made eye contact with him at the sound of her name and he held it. “You are perfectly safe with me.”
It seems like Clark is worried about something completely different... I have to admit I was so pleased that we got an almost-kiss that I'm okay with it being interrupted. ^^ The two of them sitting back-to-back while they played was such a sweet and adorable scene.
Stories are written by the victors. (Hmm, come to think of it, that's not the exact quote...)

Love how he assures her that nothing will happen if they share a tent. So incredibly sweet.
It's never too dark to be cool.

“I do not know,” he said, only partly turning back to her.
“Carnahan and Zaid thought it would start again after the generator was fixed.”
“If they say,” he said passively.
“Do you have a reason to think it wouldn't start again?” she asked innocently, head titled to one side.
“I do not know,” Gamal said again.
Stonewalled! Poor Lois. Gamal is not giving her a sand grain of information. The interaction between her and Clark in the tent is priceless. Boy Scout indeed. Now I'm wondering who the bad guy is. Right now there's a campsite full of suspects!

A writer's job is to think of new plots and create characters who stay with you long after the final page has been read. If that mission is accomplished than we have done what we set out to do, which is to entertain and hopefully educate.

UltraWoman, I saw your comments here and later and I'm loving your guesses! Egypt, mystery and WAFF are my favorite triple threat, but it's so hard to find! I can't believe I actually ended up writing it, lol. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment! Peixinho, thanks so much for the comments as you read along! "Lois, we’ve fallen asleep in the same place dozens of times. On my couch. On stakeouts. In your Jeep. That one time in the conference room,” he reminded her. “Why is this different?”
Well...
But heeeeee doesn't know that! The two of them sitting back-to-back while they played was such a sweet and adorable scene.
Thank you! I was really looking for something that felt like them but that we hadn't exactly seen before. Bakasi, aw, thanks so much. I'm glad you like this version of Clark. Morgana, lol, nope, Lois gets very little information during this story. But she seems to be pretty distracted by Clark, too, so maybe that has something to do with it? Thanks so much for taking the time to comment!

She felt her brow furrow. Was he just being solicitous? Or did he not want them to leave the dig site? Or maybe he wanted a look through the newcomers’ bags?
Um, yeah?? WHAT IS THIS!! How has Lois not torn the place down already!! Ooooooh, a moment!! Of course they had to be interrupted 😂😅 but I like it! Still, his voice was low when he said, “Should we talk about—?”
Alarm bells went off in her head as his more intimate tone went right to her core, and she cut him off before he could finish. “We can talk about a game plan tomorrow. Right now I just want to find a pair of clean pajamas and go to sleep.”
LOIS!! This makes sense for her, though. Great characterization work! ❤ Eager to get to the next chapter! Hopefully soon!! ❤❤❤
What we've got here is failure to communicate...

Aww, the theme where she's missing their closeness is so sweet. I bet he misses it too, but isn't sure where he stands so is giving her space.

Anna, to be fair, the place is doing a solid job of falling down all on its own, lol. Also, I was only off for a couple of days and you really raced through this story! Thanks so much for reading and leaving such kind words in reply! Verity, you're also reading this so fast! Thanks for taking the time to read through this whole loooong adventure! And I think you're right on in seeing Clark's side of it. And they'll come back around to this!
