A data DVD has a lot of room. And stories files are very small, even long ones!

So I've been thinking it would be neat to include a selection of some of the most famous stories in our fandom!

What stories have touched you? Which ones are your favorites that you know you would love to have an archival copy of many years from now?

This is a great idea! I love it! It was very hard to narrow it down to just a few fics but here are some of my favorites:

I agree about it being difficult to pick some favorites... (filters Calibre library by 5 star and L&C fandom... only 80 selections of 1109. That didn't help much )

My star rating system is probably different than other people's.

1. Hated it. Might not have even finished it.
2. Finished it. It was readable. Probably wouldn't read it again.
3. Enjoyed it. Will definitely read it again.
4. Love it. On the frequent re-read list.
5. Mindblowingly good. Goes on the list to be infrequently re-read so I can continue to enjoy its absolute amazing-ness instead of burning it into my brain and losing that feeling.

So, yeah...

LnC has an incredibly high ratio of 4 and 5 stars in my library. A testiment to the amazing authors and quality control this Fandom has had for decades!

I like your rating system, PuffyTiger but I don’t think I would have the will power to only infrequently re-read the mindblowingly good fics. Those are what I consider my comfort fics and I sure have needed them the past 6 - 13 months. I’m sorry I haven’t been around much lately and I know I’m very behind on my fic reading here on the boards but one of these days life will give me a break.

I'm sad your life hasn't given you a break recently, Songbird! I pray it will soon. Hugs from an internet friend.

The reason I limit my reading of 5 star books is because I have an incredibly good memory. It comes close to being eidetic, and this can be a great blessing and a source of frustration, lol. A blessing for the obvious reasons, but a frustration because it makes it difficult for me to repeatedly experience the wonder of things very often. I value the 'first time experience' greatly because of this, which is why I rarely read fics as they are being posted. I wish my first experience of them to be the complete thing

And have learned that for my most favorite things, it is better for me to refrain, so I can continue to experience the wonder of them. Over the years I've managed to convince my brain to not retain them perfectly, and so the memory fuzzes a little. When this happens, I can experience it again and enjoy the flow of wonder that makes it a favorite!

I certainly understand other people have different needs, and I'm so glad that your favorite fics are here for you, to be a comfort for you. My 3 and 4 star fics are like that for me!

I can see how having an almost eidetic memory can be a great blessing and a source of frustration. It makes sense that you don’t want to read your 5 star fics often. It’s good you can convince your brain to be a little fuzzy
so you can enjoy again the wonder of a favorite fic.
