One of the things a previous fundraiser did was collect fan creations and make a keepsake disc, which people contributed money to receive. The fan creations were mostly exclusive to the disc, and weren't released for a while after it was distributed. Many of our older members still have this and love seeing it in their collections.

I want to do something similar this time too!

So this is a call for fan creations for the 2026 Keepsake Collection. If you would like to create something for it, make a comment below saying what it is!

I'm still working out what sort of physical item will be produced to hold this collection. Keep an eye out for a discussion on that!

I'll start!

It's not exactly exclusive, but I've been doing graphics for the fandom and I'll put those in the Keepsake Collection. Right now those include:

  • The LnC S-shield in various formats
  • The show logo from the DVD in various formats (you can see a modified version on the top of the boards here!)
  • The rebuilt Daily Planet logo from the DVD
  • The 'Onyx SC Dropcap Condensed' font I modified from one of the Onyx variations so it drops the capital letters below the baseline like the show title (used in a lot of the fundraiser advertising!)

So I've been doing more research on physical media, and I think the best way to go would be a data DVD with a downloadable version available for those who don't have optical drives anymore.

A DVD is very archival and USB drives are not. If a USB drive isn't plugged in regularly, its storage can degrade and corrupt, similar to an SSD.

Where as an optical drive should be able to be acquired by almost anyone who wanted to recover the data off the DVD at a later point. The ones I'm looking at have a nice printing surface (which my printer can do) and good reputation for longevity. My computer also has an optical drive that can burn them. It's a fine art printer, so I can also print the case insert with good quality color and longevity. So if we do DVDs, I can produce the physical portion of the Keepsake Collection right in my office.

I'd love discussion on this!

I didn’t know that if a USB drive isn’t plugged in regularly, its storage can degrade and corrupt. *looks at pile of USB drives* I hope they’re still good. Thanks for the info!

My laptop doesn’t have a large storage capacity and it also didn’t come with an optical player so I bought an external one. As I remember, it wasn’t very expensive. I’ve used it to copy old DVDs to an external hard drive that has a large storage capacity. For me personally I like the idea of a DVD for the Keepsake Collection but a downloadable version is nice too. I’m not tech savvy but I think I could probably download it to my external drive.

It’s great that you can produce the physical
portion of the Keepsake Collection in your office. That will help reduce the cost of the production of the collection resulting in more money for the boards. Thank you for all your hard work! It’s greatly appreciated!

Ahh, I should have been clearer. The data in storage can degrade and corrupt. The physical drive is usually fine though! But definitely not archival.

And you're welcome! I don't do creative writing, but I can organize, haha.
