Hi FoLCs,

As many of you know, we are funded through the end of 2026. But we’d love to have the community continue next year -- and the year after that and the year after that!
And so we need your help!

GOAL:

Our goal is $800 USD by October 1.
This will go toward paying to keep the message boards running, renewing the Kerth Awards website, the Archive and the NFic Archive and the lcficdirectory.com. It includes domain names, annual hosting fees and the software we run to keep everything going!

Realistically, if every active member donated $25, we’d be on track through 2027. But we know that some people don’t have that budgeted in for a donation, while others might easily be able to offer more. So we're asking you to donate what you can. Ways to donate are listed below!

VOLUNTEER NEEDED:

We’re also looking for a volunteer to help us with our fundraising efforts so we can raise this amount by our deadline. We would love some awesome FoLC (or FoLCs) to step up and be the Fundraising Coordinator to help with that event (and potentially future ones too!), keeping the community aware of our funding progress and keeping us on track toward our goal.

If the group doesn’t fund the boards from this call alone, we might do an auction to help incentivize the giving (and rumor has it that lovetvfan, KSaraSara, and JadedEvie have all offered auction items)!

If you’d like to volunteer, reply to this post or message anyone on the Kerth Committee here or on Discord.

WAYS TO SUPPORT THE BOARDS AND ARCHIVES:

PayPal
To donate, head to PayPal.com, and send to @lcficmbs. (You’ll see KathyB’s name, as she’s the holder of the funds.)

If you live in the US, PayPal does not charge fees for sending USD to a friend. For those outside the US, PayPal charges both a fixed fee for the international transfer and a variable fee for the currency conversion. To avoid those, you can check out the next section about bank transfers.

Bank Transfer
For FoLCs outside the US, we have set up a WISE account in KSaraSara’s name to help facilitate international donations. (WISE is a service similar to PayPal that lets you accept international money transfers in a variety of currencies without the steep fees that PayPal charges. The currency will then be converted on our end at a competitive rate and a much lower fee—e.g. 0.44% for GBP.) To help save on transfer fees, the money will be held in the WISE account until there’s a lump sum to transfer to KathyB. As with the PayPal account, this WISE account will be used for nothing other than FoLC donations.

You can direct-deposit funds via bank transfer in the following currencies:

EUR (Euro-Zone)
If you pay with EUR and can use a SEPA transfer, you can transfer us the money via the following bank account information:
  • IBAN: BE33 9676 0849 8746
  • BIC: TRWIBEB1XXX

Since the payment is in EUR and done as a SEPA transfer, no currency conversion fees apply on your end and the transfer typically costs the same as any domestic money transfers you perform. The money will arrive according to SEPA regulations, which normally means up to two banking days but likely already on the next banking day.
When sending the money, please specify your message board user name and the purpose (e.g. LCFICMBS Donation or special event details like an auction payment) in the reference field.

Your legal name as it shows on your bank account will be seen when Sara receives the transfer, but please be assured the info will remain confidential.

CAD (Canada)
If you live in Canada, you can do an Interac Autodeposit domestic money transfer in CAD, thus avoiding currency conversion fees as well as international money transfer fees.

The registered Interac email address is skfolc[at]gmail.com. You’ll see Sara’s full legal name (eep! ), and your legal name as it shows on your bank account will show up in Sara’s email, but please be assured the info will remain confidential.

Please specify your message board user name and a purpose (e.g. LCFICMBS Donation or special event details like an auction payment).

GBP (United Kingdom)
If you live in the United Kingdom, you can do a domestic money transfer in GBP, thus avoiding currency conversion fees as well as international money transfer fees.
  • Sort code: 23-14-70
  • Account number: 26236138
  • IBAN: GB40 TRWI 2314 7026 2361 38

When sending the money, please specify your message board user name and the purpose (e.g. LCFICMBS Donation or special event details like an auction payment) in the reference field.

Your legal name as it shows on your bank account will only be seen by Sara when she receives the transfer, but please be assured the info will remain confidential.

Other Payment Options
If you need to use a different form of payment (other than PayPal or the listed bank transfer information), please check with KSaraSara or KathyB for options!

Our fandom runs on the generosity of its members.
Thank you for being a part of it for the past thirty years, and for helping it to live on!

Looking forward to this summer's Location Challenge! Looks like stories are due around August 1st, and then polls open for voting!

And don't forget about the 2026 fundraiser! Head over to the Fundraising page to donate or consider adding a story to the Keepsake Collection fundraising drive!

What are we thinking the fundraiser organizer would do? I'm a good organizer and would be happy to do something, but I'm sort of unclear as to what that might be.

Hi,

For easier reference, I dug up the 2014 fundraiser
https://www.lcficmbs.com/ubb/ubbthreads.php/topics/170355/fundraiser-for-lnc-fanfic-mbs

I think half of it was an auction
https://www.lcficmbs.com/ubb/ubbthreads.php/topics/170589/fanworks-auction-now-open-to-offers

Plus the stuff happening around swag
https://www.lcficmbs.com/ubb/ubbthreads.php/forums/21/1/fundraising-swag

Wendy did the auction and every FoLC interested could do swag.

So I guess the role were looking for is someone who gets the ball rolling on these things, comes up with the timeline, and checks what worked last time and so on. If you also actually want and do organize the auction, that's wonderful! Or there's volunteers for some of the other stuff who's efforts need to be coordinated.

For the two existing forums, we probably want to update the thread titles and lock them to make sure FoLC know they're the old ones, if they expand the date range.

Oh, and the one before the 2014 fundraiser was in 2006!. This is actually really great, what with there being now 12 instead of 8 years between them.

I just made a donation. I’ll try and donate more money in a couple of months. I love this community and I would be crushed if it went away. Thanks!

That all sounds very doable. I'd be happy to be the organizer!
