I just got a new laptop about two weeks ago now from Dell then yesterday morning I saw on one of the morning news show that a Dell laptop caught on fire now Dell said it was the battery that did and not the laptop and the news show says that this has happened to other laptops as well that Dell just happen to get caught on tape.
I just was wondering if anyone else got scare by this?

I hadn't heard that. Guess it makes sense if the battery gets too hot, maybe. Anyway, I've had my Dell laptop for well over a year now, and it's still here. Sara

My husband and one of my good friends both have Dell laptops and both are very happy with them. Neither have reported any problems with them. LabRat

We have at least 30 Dell laptops at work, ranging in age from 5 years to less than one year, and not a single flame between any of them. Yvonne

Yeah well it's always like that: there are millions of Dell-laptops, 5 or so caught on fire, and it's on the news and everyone is scared. If I were you, I wouldn't pay too much attention to it and just enjoy PS I don't no why, but my message sounds somewhat rude/filled with sarcasm/cynism/whatever... Just wanted you to know that it isn't ment that way
I love the smell of fear in the newsroom.

Thanks for the replies it makes me feel alot better now. Selinde I understood what you were saying and I didn't take it to being rude. That is the truth that their are more likey a million Dell laptops about and their not all catching on fire.

However it is almost certainly one version of the laptops that has a problem. I'd go to the Dell site and see if my model has any recall notices.

Hello All,
We have three Dell laptops at home including my husband's work computer and have had no problems with them. However, my husband was trying to fix my niece's Toshiba Laptop a last winter because the fan kept shutting down and the computer would over heat. When he took it into the shop to be repaired, the guy said that the fan was full of dust, lint and stuff. The fan had to be replaced and because of the malfunction and overheating, everything on the computer was lost. The repair guy said that laptop fans are under the machine and the computers only should be used on hard surfaces so the unit doesn't suck in debris. My niece would use it on her bed or on top of a blanket in her lap while watching TV and IMing her friends and such.
I certainly hadn’t heard about that before. Maybe it's what happened with the Dell that exploded.

Maria, I wanted to thank you also. My husband checked all of our Dell computers this weekend with the help of your websites. My college-aged daughter's laptop had some of the same serial numbers, but was fortunately manufactured at a different location than the faulty ones. Thanks again for doing all of that research.
