I just finished a SV fanfic posted at ff.net, for anyone who is interested. When Worlds Collide

I hadn't watched SV until this season when Lois came to town. I am a total FoLC- I was afraid of the dynamics nonFoLC writers would introduce. Anyway, the muse got an idea and I had to get it out... which is a good thing because now she's ready to get back to the LnC stories that have been sitting to the side.

LnC is my first love, but I thought I would post this for those who are willing to read it!

As for the backstory for those who are unfamiliar:
SV follows a young Clark Kent in high school who is starting to get powers. In S1, he learns that he's an alien. He saved the life of Lex Luthor, the son of Mega-illionare Lionel. They are good friends, although Lex thinks there is something under the surface with the Kent family.

Clark has been in love with Lana Lang from far away (for too long IMO). Chloe Sullivan, his best friend and editor of the school paper, loved Clark from afar, and made a deal with Lionel to investigate Clark after seing him and Lana together. After turning her back on Lionel's deal, and agreeing to testify against him (he killed his parents), Chloe's safe house is blown up.

Clark battles with Jor-El, who is trying to create a 'ruler of earth' by turning him into Kal-El. In previous seasons, Clark has run away to Metropolis drugged up on red kryptonite to escape 'his destiny.'

The mythos of SV plays through some ancient Native American caves and the mysterious Dr. Swann. The cave picture depict a man falling from the stars with powers who promises to send another one like him. Dr. Swann intercepted an interstellar message and decrypted the language to find out about Clark. Clark finds out that there are 3 stones (presumably from Krypton) that he needs to locate.

Season 4 begins with Lois coming to town to investigate her cousin Chloe's death. A blast of lightning makes her drive off the road where she discovers a naked Clark Kent, acting as Kal-El. When he snaps to it, they work together to find Chloe, who's death had been faked by Lex to protect her from Lionel's hit men.

In the Spell episode, Lois comes to SV to throw a surprise party for Chloe. Lana gets possessed by an ancient witch who is looking for the sacred stones. Lana then possesses Lois and Chloe, and they go on a rampage. This story goes before and after that epi, so that small explanation should explain the references. (See the Music Video for a fun epi cap)

Now, if all of that didn't scare you away, please take a few minutes to read When Worlds Collide .

Ah, so you're SunRei from K-Site. I joined there in December, and discovered the Archive about the same time, but didn't actually join these boards till a few days ago.

The fic's not bad--good writing, and some interesting plotlines. You'll never really have me as an adoring fan, though--I'm a Chlarker all the way when it comes to SV. I see Chloe as Lois's counterpart in the SV world; SV's Lois is WAY too unfocused on journalism and school for me. But that's a long discussion for another time. wink

Don't point. You make holes in the air and the faeries escape.

Wow! Wow, wow, wow!

Sunkist, that was fabulous! Really, really fabulous.

It took me most of the day to read it, since I was squeezing in chapters where I could, but it was well worth it. I really, really enjoyed reading this! smile

You did a marvelous job of capturing the feel of an S2 L&C, that "friendship on the verge of more" feeling, while still staying true to the Smallville versions of the characters. I was especially impressed with your dialogue -- I could definitely hear TW and ED throughout the story, even while they were doing L&C-type things. The plotting was also very well done; lots of twists and turns and tons of details! Yet the story never bogged down; it was very nicely paced.

I also enjoyed all the episode rewriting you did; fans always know best, don't they? wink Interesting explanations for various Smallville mythos stuff -- the caves, Jor-El's contradictory personalities, Jason/Genevieve -- and I loved all the different outcomes for the various side characters. (And hey, anyone who can get Lana out of the picture has my vote. wink )

You also put a fabulous twist on the revelation: "I want to know, but I want you to be ready for me to know" (paraphrased) -- so low-key, but so great. Our Lois would only do this in WAFFy fanfic, but it feels perfectly in character for ED's Lois to respond this way. I think you nailed it. (And I adored the way Clark lost his fascination with Lana the more time he spent with Lois, and Lois's confident prediction that she was going to "save him" from his Lana obsession -- boy, did she ever. smile )

Wonderful ending, too ... you brought them basically to where our L&C would pick up, only better, in a lot of ways, because they already have feelings for each other and suspect that they've found "the one". Now they just need to grow up a little and get back in the same city and ... rediscover each other. smile (And yes, I was very excited to see your teaser for a sequel, since I was all ready to beg for one. I would love to see what you do with a 20-something L&C, settling into their careers at the DP and finally being willing to explore their feelings for each other. Please say you are planning to write it!)

Oh, and btw, I enjoyed all the little L&C references -- "Lex Luthor will never live in a cage", boxers vs briefs, Centennial Park, etc. LOL, the SV readers won't get it, but I noticed and appreciated. smile

Sunkist, thanks for posting the link to your story here. I haven't read all that much SV fic, but I am definitely interested in reading any future stories that you do. I'm a tough critic, and I was very, very impressed. smile

Thanks Kathy!
Glad you liked it. I was unsure of posting the link because of the SV background. I personally thought of the story as a type of AU that had Lois and Clark meeting early (glad you caught my LnC refrences wink )

Anyway, thanks for reading! Part 2 in the works, so I'll be sure to keep you posted.

Just wanted to let those interested know that I completed the sequel to WWC (the fic I spoke about above) and have another one up called Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow (title linked to story).

I read a LnC story a few years ago and had this idea in the back of mind (that evolved into my story)... but I can't remember the title/author of that one. I'll be sure to credit that person for sparking my muse when I figure it out smile

Edit: The story is In a Better Place , by CC Aiken. After reading it, I had a bunch of 'what-ifs' that turned into this story.

My Smallville fanfiction is written with MUCH respect given to LnC, so I think members at this forum would enjoy them. Just consider the Smallville Universe an AU where Lois and Clark meet earlier in life, but the sparks are still the same.

Thanks!
