I know there are a few Stargate fans here and just a few brilliant authors <g>. And even some FoLCs who embrace the two! So I thought I'd pass this along from one of my Stargate sites, just in case anyone here might be interested in giving it a go.

I've read the first of these novels and the publishers seem very keen on giving us something very like fanfic, strong on characterisation. Sabine Bauer and Julie Fortune are both fanfic authors (Sabine is one of the SG fandom's top-rated authors, writing terrific fanfic under the penname of Doc).

All I want to know is, why can't they do this kind of thing for LNC. <G>

Fandemonium seeking Stargate authors
OCTOBER 11, 2004

Stargate SG-1 novel publisher Fandemonium Books is looking for the next great Stargate writer. The company announced this weekend that it will conduct an open submissions process throughout the month of November, inviting fans to send in proposals for original Stargate SG-1 novels.
From November 1 through November 30, writers can send in their proposal via postal mail only, including a synopsis, writing sample, and a writing history. Unpublished writers are encouraged to submit a proposal. Visit StargateNovels.com for full details and proposal specs!

Fandemonium has published two SG-1 novels to date: "Trial By Fire" by Sabine C. Bauer, and "Sacrifice Moon" by Julie Fortune. The third novel in the series, "A Matter of Honor" by Sally Malcolm, is due next month.

Ditto what CC said, Lab. Make that Muse earn her keep, why don't you? She's been lounging on the beach for these past months. I think it's high time she pulled in a buck or two <g>.

I think I'd even be tempted to purchase a Stargate SG-1 novel if it was written by Lab, even though I've only seen two episodes. wink

OK, CC, I need to know what Smallville ideas are roaming loose around your head. You don't plan to have Chloe kill off Lois, do you?
wink

LOL - thanks for the vote of confidence, but no way. <g> Strangely enough, never had the urge to write any SG fanfic and know I couldn't do the characters justice if I tried.

If it was for LNC, I might have given it a go, just for the fun of it, though.

Wait, wait wait. Sabine is Doc? As in "For God and Country" Doc? "Cost of Living" and "The Weather Outside"? That Doc? Now I really am going to have to get those books!

Yes, Karen! Which is why - ironically and sadly enough - she hasn't written more fanfic lately. frown

Her experience was every fanfic author's dream. She was directly emailed by the publishers requesting that she write them the first novel in their new series, after they'd gone trawling through the net and read her SG fanfic.

I actually enjoy her fanfic more than the novel - but that's inevitable, I think. A novel for general release has to be a little more structured to global appeal, rather than being devoted to angst or one character in particular or whatever.

But I have to say that Trial By Fire was a cut above the usual TV novels I've read in the past. I did enjoy it. It had some nice character/team moments, some great banter and Jackisms. I thought the aplot was a little slow towards the end, but I was never really bored. I had a small problem with the main original character being a little cliched - but she had some good interactive moments with Jack that made me LOL, so I could forgive that. And Sabine even managed to get in some references back to the events of Abyss - which is very unusual in a TV novel.

So I'd definitely recommend it for a pleasant way to fill in a couple of hours. smile

I was only able to track down one fanfic online by Julie Fortune - The Good Wife. It was very well written, very angtsy and Daniel-centric. I liked it very much. Sadly, the rest of her work was confined to paper zines, which you have to buy offline. Which was rather frustrating as the synopsis for most of them were very intriguing. But certainly she seems qualified and the summary of her novel - Sacrifice Moon - sounds very interesting. I've just in fact gone and bought it from Amazon, so I'll let you know what I think. wink
