My, what a mean old witch! She's like a female Mr. Scrooge, or worse. Although I could sympathize with her anger and despair at what happened to her mother. It really wasn't at all uncommon in the early twentieth century that women died of complications of pregnancy and childbirth, even here in the west.

Anyway, I wonder if this fearful old woman is any relation of the not-so-beloved bomber of this story, the one who needs to punish the world for the bad things that have happened to him.
