Hi Terry!
Thanks for the feedback! Glad you're still enjoying the story.
I really do love all the theories you're coming up with. I only hope that my version entertains you as much as your theories have been entertaining me.
As for seeing Lex find out about the raid on the asylum and that Clark has been rescued...wish granted. You'll be seeing it in chapter 10. I had some...other business...to attend to in the story first. You'll see.
Clark is very much shattered and broken. And yes, it would be catastrophic if he regained his powers. And probably deadly to Lois. Here she is, making Clark a bowl of cereal, when suddenly...ZAP! He incinerates her with his eyes. Her smoldering clothing sets the rest of the kitchen on fire. In mere minutes, the entire house is up in flames while Clark sits unaware at the table. Clark is revealed to be not quite human and is brought to Area 51, where the lone surviving member of B39 performs a vivisection on Clark's still vulnerable body. The B39 member is then regarded as a national hero for ending the threat Clark posed to "the world."
You mention having someone tell Lois that she should give up. I think Lois would thrust her hand into that person's chest to rip out and crush their still-beating heart. Most of the people she's close to would know better than to offer up logic to her and would ply her with false hope and/or refuse to bring up the subject with her. The greater danger of that happening would be from either a stranger or her own flesh and blood family. "Lois? What are you doing with Lucy's bloody and unmoving body?"
In a way, this almost IS a deathfic. Both Clark and Superman are essentially dead. The man lives on in body, but his spirit is gone.
More to come tonight!
