Cyborg accomplished several things. By the way, I thought that actor that portrayed Victor Stone did a great job of showing various shades of emotion.
1) It's clear now that Lana knows that Chloe shares Clark's secret when Lana makes the remark at the Daily Planet that "is Victor going to keep lying to the woman he loves?" and then she sees the eye contact between Clark and Chloe in reaction to her remark.
2) Lex and Clark are now enemies and lie freely to each other. Lex has morphed into the evil man Clark has been accusing him of being.
3) Lionel has a secret identity and a split personality complex: Lionel and Lion-El. I first spotted it for sure in "Vengeance" after Clark rescued him from being thrown out of Luthor corp. Three sentences, alternating personalities. "Remarkable woman. Totally misguided" - British accent - Lion-El- "Why do I feel like you saved me more for her than for me"?- Lionel voice- "Whatever the case, thank you, SON" Lion-El British accent.
Now at the end when it is disclosed that Lionel probably set up the whole blackmail scenario and that he has the CD showing Clark holding Lana and saving her from the warehouse fire, and he says "your secret is safe with me, Kal-El" it is apparent that Lionel and Jor-El are both resident. That story line left us hanging for another 5 weeks until Smallville resumes on March 30th (sigh).
4) Lana has been more self-less in recent episodes. In "Vengeance" she makes a concerted effort to find Jonathan's watch at various pawn shops in Metropolis. In this episode, she finds Katherine and brings him to Victor. She sees that Victor is willing to confide his secret (part-bionic man) to her. She doesn't understand why Chloe knows Clark's secret and she, the woman he supposedly loves, doesn't. She appropriately asks him if he still loves her, after reaffirming to him that she loves him with all of her heart. He has backed off and doesn't even hug and kiss her anymore, treating her like a friend not a romantic partner. He replies woodenly to her that he "has always loved her and always will, no matter what happens".
Not making sense to her that a man who loves her won't open up to her, she leaves the barn, heartbroken.
I feel the last several episodes of Smallville have portrayed Lana in a more sympathetic light -a more selfless character who truly loves a man who won't open up to her. We know, as fans of the series, why he has backed off, but she doesn't.
It is inevitable that Lana will need closure to get over him. TPTB have stated that another character is on their way out. Candidates are:
Chloe - mental illness? Could be that "Tomb" is a set-up for that future story line...
Lana - goes back to Paris to get over Clark? (per the comics, she leaves town for many many years to try to get over Clark after he confides his secret to her)
Lion-el/Lionel - another person not in the adult Superman canon...perhaps with Brainiac coming back, something will happen there.
Anyway, there was a lot more going on in this episode than just another "Teen Titan" coming to town.....
