Well, I've heard of the term, in the way Paul's sources defined it. It was a new one on me fairly recently, but in the last year or so I think I've run across it several times... probably mostly while I'm reading political blogs and the links therefrom <g> There's some amount of criticism/analysis of news coverage, so I guess "lede" comes up in that context.
