I agree with C_A. While I always enjoyed (or mostly enjoyed) the later incarnations of Lois's parents for their comic value, I think that the S1 portrayal of her father had more depth and emotional resonance for me and would definitely be my favourite. Some of the scenes in Requiem are incredibly poignant, especially her father's quiet acceptance of the fact that he's estranged from his daughter.
I always felt sorry for Ellen in...eeesh, what's the name of the Big Head episode...nope, it's gone. Whatever - it must have hurt her terribly to realise that everyone in the family had been let in on Clark's secret, except her. Well, for as long as she was allowed to remember it, anyway.
