In today's "Dead Lois Walking", when Lois and Clark were escaping in the car and Clark turns on the radio, the announcer calls Lois "'Mad Dog' Lane".

Was she called this before in the series, or was this the first time? confused

I'm asking this because she was furious (or disappointed?) they were calling her that, but in the fics that I have read here on the boards, usually Lois tells Clark that people call her "Mad Dog" Lane by the way she attacks her stories.

Lois was first referred to as Mad Dog Lane by Jimmy in Neverending Battle in S1:

CLARK: Jimmy?

JIMMY: Yo, C.K.

CLARK: Tell me something ... Is Lois always so aggressive going after stories?

JIMMY: Does the phrase 'Mad Dog Lane' sound about right?

CLARK: *Seriously*.

JIMMY: Seriously? Yeah. But I've never seen her *this* worked up. This Superman guy has really pushed her buttons.

Thanks, LabRat.

But then why does she get so mad (or disappointed) when they call her that?

In Season 1 she knows people call her that, doesn't she? Or do they call her that behind her back?

I think it's because they are vastly different situations. Lois probably liked (or pretended to like) being called Mad Dog Lane when she went after a story because it showed that she was determined and aggressive. However, three years later, after softening her personal touch, the phrase would seem a bit harsh. And, more importantly, in this case, they aren't refering to her journalistic tenacity, they are using that nickname to portray her as a crazed murderer. Not exactly flattering in any light.
