Hey guys, November is approaching soon and that means it's almost time for our annual Christmas Ficathon. This year, we want to mix up the ficathon idea with a "Guess the Author-challenge."
That means you still send three things you want in a fic and three things you don't want. Once the assignments are out and the stories are written, you send your story to someone who will collect them. They will be posted by that person so that we can guess who wrote the stories.
Any questions?
Who would like to participate?
Puffytiger offered her services as the person who will collect and post the stories.
Me! I'm in!
Edit: Er...question: Are we supposed to email someone now, or just wait for a certain date or something?
I can't believe we're already at Christmas!
I'm in!
Puffytiger or I am going to post the address and the dates soon.
Wohoo! I get to read allll the stories first!
Ahem..
I'm pleased to be the go-between for this year's Guess the Author Christmas Fictathon!
Please email your prompts to tigerpuffs@gmail.com by November 8th so I can shuffle them up and have them out by the 10th. This will give people about 6 weeks to write before Christmas!
Woops, I put the wrong email in. Sorry all.
tigerpuffs@gmail.com (darn reversing name thing...)
Oooo! I think I'd like to participate. Is this like a secret santa? You put in a prompt, then get a prompt to write in return?
Yep! And it's combined with Guess the Author, so that's why everything is going through me, to keep it all anonymous.
And anyone is welcome to play! So send me your prompts! (now that the email is fixed, lol)
Count me in! ... now I just have to think of prompts...
Yay, I'm in, too. Sent my prompts to you, yesterday!
I had an idea if you're struggling with prompts. You could browse the challenge folder here on the boards or the plot bunny sanctuary on Discord for ideas!
Also, bakasi's email was in my spam folder. I'll be checking it, but if you could let me know you've sent it, I'll reply when I've gotten it, so we all know it went through like it should! I'd hate for anyone to miss out because of a lost email :S
So far I've received bakasi , Carrie and Queenie!
Cool, I'll give it a try.
Submitted!
Oh nice idea. We did this kind of annonymous/gess the author challenge recently in the S&L fandom and that was a lot of fun. I'll be in for that. Going to think of some prompts now...
*gentle nudge to remind folcs to get me their prompts by Wednesday!*
Is there time for me to get in on this? I know I have been pretty absent this year, but I would love to participate!
I suppose there shouldn't be any beta reading? So as to avoid spoiling the guessing of the authors?
Yes, there's still time! Sign-ups should show up in my inbox by the time I wake up and check it on thursday. And since I run on a more swing schedule these days, that means late morning Central time. I'll match things up and get them out by Friday evening, latest.
I currently have:
Carrie
Queenie
Blue Owl
Sara
LoveTVfan
Toomie
JadedEvie
Bakasi
As for beta reading, perhaps one person, a participant or not, could volunteer and then not play guess the author? As much as I love reading, beta reading creative writing isn't one of my strengths...
Depending on length of these, I could probably find time for some beta-reading! I might not be able to do them all, but I can definitely do some! I'm happy to skip the 'guess who' aspect to get this done, too.
A little late here (got distracted), but now I sent mine in, too. :-)
Some further Questions: How is the guessing supposed to work? Does anyone just comment in the regular FDK thread who they thikn wrote what? Is there a time-up, like so many days/weeks/etc. and then there'll be a big reveal, or do the authors just confirm their identity as son as someone guessed correctly? How do we avoid "accidentally" revealing ourselves if we, say, comment on any story but the one we wrote ourselves - or are we supposed to wrote "false" FDK to veil our identity?
Just things coming to my erratic mind...
Those are great questions. I'll ask people who have participated before to chime in on them!
Thank you to everyone who signed up.
All prompts have been sent out!
We've figured out how this will work.
I can do technical editing if you need help with that. Commas, verb tenses, grammar, etc. Just send anything you want me to look over to tigerpuffs@gmail.com or hit me up on Discord if you have something small you need help with. I can do Google Docs but not Microsoft 360. Or we can do a good old fashioned rich text or Word file.
JadedEvie has volunteered to do some beta reading if anyone needs it! I could try to do some, but it's not one of my strengths.
All stories will be posted on Jan 6.
Guessing will last 2 weeks and take place in the FDK threads and then we will have a reveal.
Anyone can guess, not just writers! Writers can 'guess' on their own stories if they wish.
For those of us who work (mostly) well on "deadline" mode... do you have a date when you would like to receive all the submissions by so that you aren't scrambling to post them all the same day you get them? (sorry if this was somewhere else... I didn't see it on a quick scan!)
Thanks!
Sara
I think Puffytiger said she would post all fics on January 6th, which means you should get yours to her some time before that.
Depends on if you want me to do technical proofing or just post as submitted. If I'm just posting, then the 5th is fine!
I also finished my draft tonight, so if anyone is looking for any beta'ing, I'm happy to help and should have some time! Feel free to message me here.
Posting this as a reminder that there's only just over 2 weeks left until stories are due!
I can help with technical editing via google docs, and JadedEvie has volunteered to help with beta reading if anyone needs it!
Everyone please get me your stories by tomorrow! I'm scheduled to post them on Friday =)
Is tomorrow late night ok?
That would be fine! I either need to have a google doc access or a file in my inbox by the time I get up on Friday (US Central timezone), as that's the first thing I'm planning on doing when I sit down to work.
Due to several not-quite-requests-for-a-little-more-time-to-guess-pleeeease, the fictathon reveal will happen Sunday afternoon, US central time!
So get your guessing in before then!
