Hi Amber,

MozartMaid and I have already been communicating behind the scenes about the BNA award.

Being able to pass the torch along is an honour I am very much looking forward to, and I am sure that MozartMaid feels the same way.

Joy,
Lynn

I will be out of town that weekend! whinging
But if you can let me know the time, I will try to participate if at all possible.

We have a tentative time of 6 pm. So get ready for fun and frolics. Is anybody pregnant? eek

If you have never presented before, we encourage you to do so. It's fun and easy!

Actually, it is Daylight Savings Time in the US now.
So it is 6 p.m. EDT
3 p.m. PDT and the inbetweeners can figure it out.
Use this for ROW (Rest of World)

Aww! I'd love to attend, but Sunday the 15th is the Greek Orthodox Easter Sunday, and this means that during its early hours (that the ceremony falls onto) I'll be at church first, and then at a family dinner which I can't avoid - and, given that I'll be coming from a week of fasting, I won't want to avoid either. laugh

I'll keep an eye on this thread and pick out something to prepare for the ceremony, though. wink

clap Oooh! Can't wait! Got it marked on my calendar already! laugh
Posted By: VirginiaR Re: Kerth Ceremony 2012 - 04/09/12 12:57 AM
I'd love to come, but my son's been invited to a birthday party at that time, my husband has to work, and I still haven't been able to take time away from writing my current story to figure out how to IRC clap

Maybe if I have time I'll write up and submit a possible commercial in advance (those were hilarious when I read them from the 2010 ceremony). If I'm allowed to do this, to whom should I send it?

EDIT: ooops! blush Sorry, you've already answered that question above. Never mind. laugh

Virginia, go to http://www.mirc.com/ and all the information is there.

I'll be there, and so will a lot of the people you see on the boards. It's a great time every year. We'd love to see you there.

What channel do we select?

Is it all text or is it audio as well?
Posted By: Nan Re: Kerth Ceremony 2012 - 04/09/12 03:39 PM
The Kerths are on #kerthchat and #kerthawards, I think, unless it has been changed this year. I'm not absolutely sure because for some reason my saved data for my favorite mirc channels has vanished. I'm sure all the info will be posted, especially for those who are new to the channels.

Most of the action takes place as text, but there are sound effects as well. Come by on Saturday and find out!

I'd love to check out what all of this is/how it turns out, but I really have no idea what I'm doing with this irc thingy.
Posted By: Mouserocks Re: Kerth Ceremony 2012 - 04/09/12 05:55 PM
<<sigh>> I'm going to have to give in and join this, aren't I? I really can't afford another time-eater... but I definitely don't want to miss this! So I'm going to do this at some point today/tomorrow...

Just to clarify, what exactly is invovled with presenting and commercials? I'm hoping to attend, and depending on how shock my schedule this week gets, I may or may not be able to volunteer for something. But I would like some more details on that front <<cough, cough, NEWB>>

I'm going to try and sneak in! Weddings and traveling NEVER mix!

If not, congratulations to all the winners!
Posted By: Karen Re: Kerth Ceremony 2012 - 04/09/12 06:57 PM
For presenting, you'd write a speech to present the nominees, receive a message with the winner from K-Comm (usually me), and then announce the winner. You can see some previous ceremony transcripts here and here , to see what some of the other presenters have done.

If you're testing out your IRC connection/skills, you can /join #loisclark

There may or may not be someone there. If there is, just say hi! If not, check back.

There's also some of us that hang out in #lanekent in IRC.

If you still need presenters, I'm willing to do either Best Short or Best Waffy - whichever isn't taken.

Unfortunately, not me. I had hoped to be though!

6 PM EDT - that's midnight for me. And, considering the ceremony usually takes a good 3 hours or so... sorry, I need to pass this year.

For those of you who need a pointer as to when it's 6 PM EDT: Look at the following dragon sprite. If it shows up in blue, it's between 6 PM and 5:59 AM.

Do we still need a password to join the #loisclark IRC? I'm hanging out in another empty room again or it still doesn't work. (This is what happened for the Tempus actor chat as well wallbash and I refuse to pay money for a service/IRC if I can't get it to work once!)

EDIT: Mrs. Luthor explained to me that I don't have to pay for MIRC. Phew! Just hit continue until it bypasses that screen.
Posted By: Karen Re: Kerth Ceremony 2012 - 04/11/12 05:58 PM
There's no password for #loisclark. Make sure that you're joining an undernet.org server. You can use us.undernet.org or eu.undernet.org and it will connect to a random undernet server. If you're not sure, try /msg BriGal Help! (my normal IRC nick). If it says nick doesn't exist, you're not on undernet. wink If it opens a chat and I don't respond, I'm probably just away from my keyboard for a bit.

Thanks for your help, Karen, Mrs. Luthor hunted me down and found me twiddling my thumbs and sinking in quicksand over on Quakenet. dance

Hey, congrats BJ! smile But I'm all for the new tradition of *no* labor during the ceremony!

I have contacted everyone who volunteered to present. Or, at least I'm pretty sure I did. If you volunteered and haven't heard from me, please let me know!

There are still some categories available, so let me know if you'd like to claim one! Otherwise, you'll be hearing a lot of me during the ceremony, and no one really wants that. smile

Hmmm, so why am I thinking that next year, the Kerths are going to be at 7am GMT as payback? huh
Posted By: Lara Joelle Kent Re: Kerth Ceremony 2012 - 04/13/12 03:32 AM
7 AM GMT (which would be 8 AM around where Michael and I live) would be adequate payback - but why would we want to get up that early on a Saturday morning? If you could just move the ceremony 2 or 3 hours forward, we'd be served quite well. (Staying up a little longer than midnight is no big deal, after all.)

It will be a late night. But a fun one! party
Posted By: Karen Re: Kerth Ceremony 2012 - 04/13/12 05:05 AM
7am GMT? Ech! I dunno about the others on the committee, but 2am Eastern is just a tad too late for me! 8pm GMT, maybe, but not 7am!
Posted By: LabRat Re: Kerth Ceremony 2012 - 04/13/12 07:42 AM
Originally, the Kerth time was set to benefit US FoLCs, because they were in the majority.

However, over the years, things seem to have balanced out more.

Perhaps it's time to consider turn and turn about on an annual basis? Have a time to suit the US one year, then one to suit the bulk of the non-US FoLCs the next and alternate as you go?

Of course, you wouldn't be able to suit everyone outside the US, some are, unfortunately, always going to miss out. But something that doesn't always disadvantage those outside the US, but sometimes makes things just a little more even might be beneficial and help more people attend? If only half the time.

Just an idea. Off the top of my head. Might not even be logistically possible... laugh But figured I'd toss it on out there anyway.

peep I figured since this year's was going to be in the middle of the night for our European friends, the same alternative, would be for next year's to be in the middle of the night for us here in the US. I was only joking. But 7pm GMT might work too (so it's not too late for those in Eastern Europe).

Of course, wouldn't it then be in the middle of the night for our Australian and Asian Pacific friends? wallbash LabRat's right, you can't save everybody!

That makes sense to me. Is there an easy way to find out how many people are in which time zone? Should a poll be set up?

That would work for me! I'm a night owl. The only hours that would be difficult for me are between 6am and 11 am... laugh I would be open to a rotation of sorts, though.
Posted By: Anna B. the Greek Re: Kerth Ceremony 2012 - 04/13/12 03:26 PM
I remember there being a ceremony sometime set in a very reasonable European time. Might have been for the Alt-Kerths, though.

In any case, rotation sounds fair. smile Maybe a poll with checkboxes where we all check the times that are convenient to us.
Posted By: Karen Re: Kerth Ceremony 2012 - 04/13/12 06:00 PM
It might have been the alt-kerths. Most years I remember the Kerths being at 6pm EST, though I think one year it might have been at 2pm EST. That would have been many many moons ago, though.
Posted By: Lara Joelle Kent Re: Kerth Ceremony 2012 - 04/14/12 09:13 AM
I think there were several Kerth ceremonies starting either at 4 or 5 PM EDT, which was still within reason for me. (Especially 4 PM.)

I think you managed to last till about 3 am your time last year. Hehe...
Posted By: Lynn S. M. Re: Kerth Ceremony 2012 - 04/14/12 03:58 PM
ARGH!!!

I was able to connect to chatrooms earlier this week when I practiced, but now I am getting the following messages:
***
Creating connection "LynnSM"
Connecting to irc.undernet.org at port 6666 (SSL is OFF)
Connection established
Your host is trying to (re)connect too fast -- throttled
Disconnected
***

I haven't changed any settings since I last successfully connected.

Any suggestions? grovel

I hope I won't miss the ceremony due to technical difficulties, but it looks like I might.

Thanks,
Lynn

Lynn, give it a minute and try again. It does that sometimes with rapid connections.
Posted By: MrsLuthor Re: Kerth Ceremony 2012 - 04/14/12 04:09 PM
I'm not sure what any of that means, but I just sent a message to someone in the room that you were having troubles. Hopefully they know how to fix it?

Edit: Looks like someone's on the job already! smile
Posted By: Karen Re: Kerth Ceremony 2012 - 04/14/12 04:09 PM
Oooh, or actually, try to connect to us.undernet.org instead of irc.undernet.org. It might give you better luck.
Posted By: Lynn S. M. Re: Kerth Ceremony 2012 - 04/14/12 04:13 PM
Thanks Karen and Mrs. Luthor.

I'm trying us.undernet.org now. I've turned off the automatic reconnect option. Now I am getting the following message:
Connection to IRC has failed: system error code 10060"

I'm about to Google that.

Thanks again,
Lynn
