Hi everyone! smile

I’m so sorry this has taken so long. I have been away since 21 December and only arrived home late last night. I had very limited net access. Just after Christmas, I also received news that I had a new position. laugh All the access I had was used answering important work emails.

Below is a list of stories eligible for 2012 Kerths. smile1 If there is a story on the list that was eligible last year please let me know. Also if you want to make a story eligible please let me know.

A big thank you to LabRat and the archive team for the information. clap

You forgot Separate by Joan Powers aka scifiJoan.

And the epic Missing Lois by VirginiaR.
Posted By: LabRat Re: Eligible Stories 2012 - 01/22/12 10:28 PM
Separate wasn't included because this list originates from the Archive and Separate hasn't been uploaded there yet.

Stories which authors think are eligible but which weren't uploaded to the Archive during 2011 need to be presented for inclusion in this year's awards to K-Comm by the author - which you've just done for Separate. smile

If Missing Lois is eligible, Virginia will have to let K-Comm know if she wants it included in this year's Kerths.

Hi Tricia:

Can you include Green-Eyed Monster , which I submitted to the ARCHIVES prior to the end of the year? (Which I thought was the cut-off... the submission date, not the downloaded date wallbash newbie mistake). I'd also like to include Missing Lois , which I had finished posting on the Boards before the end of the year, but still am doing once last read-through before sending it to LabRat at the Archives (by the end of the month, I promise, Labby!) All my other stories not yet submitted or downloaded to the Archives can wait until next year.

Thanks.

/psst. My name is misspelled on your list. laugh You're missing an "i" before the final "a".

Please add

Trusting Me, Trusting You , 2,226
Asking Lois Out , 62
Anniversary Surprise , 4

Thanks,

Corrina.

As far as the Archive goes, the cut off date is the story must be uploaded to the Archive by December 31st of the eligible year. 2011 in this case.

However, that's not the only criteria. If GEM was posted here on the mbs in its entirety - or anywhere else online - by December 31st 2011 it would still be eligible.

If it wasn't posted by December 31st and uploaded to the Archive after December 31st, however, then it wouldn't be eligible this year - no matter when it was submitted to the Archive.

Both stories I managed to eke out last year are missing from the list. 'The Other Shoe' (which went up on the archive last week) and 'All I Want (For Christmas)'.

Thanks! And congrats on the promotion, Tricia!

Please remove my "A Few Frivolities" from the list of eligible stories. That archive submission is actually a collection of a few items that seemed to me too small to warrant submitting individually. The items included therein were considered eligible for last year's Kerth awards, and so should not be included in this year's.

Of course, it is a bit of a moot point, since, as the name implies, they were all frivolous and they would have had about as much of a chance to win as Lois would have of getting through a Tank story with her long hair intact.

Joy,
Lynn

I've also removed Taking One For The Team, which was part of an earlier compilation already considered in a previous year's Kerths.

Did Mouserocksnerd not upload her stories to the archive? She's a new author this year and has posted a few stories.

I agree with DC, we need to include Mouserocks in the new author list even though she was 'too lazy' (I believe those were her words) and didn't send over any of her stories to the Archive in 2011.

blush Lazy indeed. blush I'm still meaning to post them on the archive. The real reason I haven't yet is because my computer died. It's not quite fixed yet (waiting for one more part, finger's crossed) and then I'll post everything. The only way I've been able to keep up commenting/posting is through the computers at my school, and I didn't really want to waste time/upload things from here... huh

Thanks for the consideration though. If I get my computer fixed before the month is out, that will be the first thing I do! wink

I think there's some misunderstanding of the way the listing process works here and the importance of the Archive in it all. laugh

So...quick clarification:

As a courtesy and as EIC of the Archive and on the understanding that K-Comm has enough to do in organising this event and doesn't need to spend time trawling through the net and the mbs trying to work out which stories and authors were new this year... laugh at the start of the year I send them a list of every story uploaded to the Archive in the previous year.

That list forms the backbone of the eligible list. It just makes things easier for K-Comm and gives them a headstart. But it's by no means the whole list or the end of the process.

Over the days following its posting, the list will be tweaked considerably. Stories will be deleted as they are discovered to have been eligible in previous years for various reasons and authors may not want a particular story in competition for various reasons and can ask for them to be removed.

Likewise, stories will be added as authors who have posted a complete story somewhere online other than the Archive in the previous year and whose stories are therefore also eligible contact K-Comm and let them know that they want their stories included.

The Archive is by no means the only criteria for eligibility. If you've written and posted a story last year complete somewhere online, between January 1st and December 31st - be that the Archive, the mbs, a personal website or wherever - then it is eligible.

If you didn't send it to the Archive, the only difference between your story and the ones on the initial eligibles list posted above is that your story isn't automatically on the list and you'll be asked to inform K-Comm you'd like it to be. For exactly the same reasons as I send them the list - it's much easier to have authors notify K-Comm than it is for them to spend their time trying to track every story down.

And, of course, the same applies to the New Author award. If an author hasn't submitted any stories to the Archive in the previous year, it's more difficult for K-Comm to spot them. But all they need do is inform K-Comm they'd like to be included. Or - and this is the only award where it's possible to do this, in all others the author alone is the only one who can put their story in competition - others can inform K-Comm they are eligible on their behalf. smile

So, there's no need at all to have submitted stories to the Archive to be eligible. Nor should anyone left off the initial list assume it's because they didn't and that they are therefore out of competition!

Which isn't to say we wouldn't love to have your stories, Mouse, soon as you can send them to my mailbox.... wink

Lois: "Clark, this is no time to discuss your obsessive-compulsive behavior."
My obsessive-compulsive behavior is showing up - I have made a Microsoft Excel file of the 2011 Kerth-Eligible stories. It lists stories by author, title, and kb size.

I have found it helpful to be able to view stories by each of these categories.

If you would like me to send this to you via email attachment, please send me a message at IolantheAlias@gmail.com, or drop me a PM here on the boards.

Continuing the obsessive theme: I have blank spaces in the spreadsheet! frown
Could anyone please tell me the story size for the following stories:

All I Want (For Christmas) by Sue S.
And Then There Was Light by Anti-Kryptonite
Blind (Super)Man's Bluff by ML Thompson
Distraught by Mouserocks
Distraught Alt Ending by Mouserocks
Lethal Qualities by Anti-Kryptonite
Missing Lois by Virginia R
Not Even Chocolate by Mouserocks
Separate by Joan Powers aka ScifiJoan

Thanks.

No accusations, LabRat,
Oh, I never thought there were. I meant to add to my earlier post that I'd used your quote for convenience, Virginia, to illustrate my point, but you certainly weren't the only source over the past couple of months that made me think some clarification was needed. There have been emails. laugh

And I'm a little sensitive when it comes to this one. For years, it was impossible to shake off the myth that your story wasn't eligible for the Kerths unless it had been uploaded to the Archive. No matter how often K-Comm and I tried to dispel it, it stuck and refused to die.

Authors would flood the Archive with stories in December in a desperate, eleventh hour rush to get stories uploaded by year end. Which put a lot of pressure on the Archive staff at a time of year that's fraught with stress at the best of times. And although I've always been very proud of the fact that the staff never failed to get those stories uploaded on time or let an author down, despite it being a close call at times <g>, it's an experience I'd prefer to avoid.

It's only been in the last two years or so that the myth seems to have finally been debunked. And with authors much more relaxed about the eligibility rules and timing, the December rush has almost entirely been dumped, which makes life much easier all round.

So I'd really hate to the confusion over this one to start up again. For many reasons. But also because I'd hate for someone to be sitting out there thinking they're not eligible when they are.

Well, let's see I'm reviewing Ch 9 now, so not including Ch 10 and the Epilogue and the 2 page disclaimer... I'm currently at 4366KB (Word2003) peep But I'm not sure what it will be once it finally makes it through Labby capible hands.

Oh, and Green-Eyed Monster, 992KB (much longer than I thought it was).

PS: LabRat - I'll be sure not to make that mistake again next year and post any stories (cross my fingers) within a month of posting here. wink ... Be careful what you wish for. devil

UPDATE 2/1/12: Just sent Missing Lois (as one file) to Labby for GE. It clocked in at just under of 1300 pages, 3615KB.

To quote LabRat:

This is working fine for me. I completed "Nighttime in the Daytime" on these boards this year, but I want to do some cleaning up and perhaps adding to the ending before submitting it to the Archive.

Unfortunately, I have not had time to do that being busy with real life to a very great extent. So I will try for next year.

Several folcs have PM'd me about a sequel, and that is in the planning, but only after I'm happy with "Nighttime".

So thanks for the system. It works!

I was just taking a closer look at the list of eligible stories -- I am in the middle of completing the third quiz -- and I noticed a couple of missing 'r's:

Buttefly Effect, The Lynn S M 11

The first word should be "Butterfly"

Clakus Maximus Deadly Chakram 183

The first name should be "Clarkus"

BTW, just in case anyone missed it, someone emailed me to say that Anti-K's And Then There Was Light and Lethal Qualities have been added to the list. thumbsup They had missed that and thought prematurely that their reading was done laugh , so just in case anyone else out there needs to add those to their reading list...
