I've asked the Committee to add ...

Treasure Chest 351K
The Gift of Words 20K
Aussie Rules 1750K

Time to Love 1 - Weekend in Smallville
Second Chance

... are not eligible because they were on the list for 2010.

Although Trusting Me, Trusting You 1:Junction is complete, I'm not going to add it to the 2011 list. I'll put all TMTY stories on the list for 2012.

Thanks, smile

Corrina.

My story "Distance" is not eligible this year because I asked it to be included in the eligibility list last year.

SO excited to see info on Kerth Awards up!! I have a few questions, though... what do the numbers mean next to the eligible stories listed? Also, are only archived stories eligible? I have two super short stories that haven't been archived yet ( Defender of the Helpless and That Extra Hour Challenge ) that may be eligible...(What exactly are the rules for eligibility anyway?) Anyway, so excited!!! clap
Posted By: Karen Re: Eligible Stories 2011 - 12/30/10 06:53 AM
The numbers next to the stories are the size counts, which are helpful for the size-limited categories. Stories don't need to be on the archive in order to be including in the eligible list. They only need to be completed by the end of 2010 and posted somewhere, such as these boards. smile The ones on the archive are usually automatically included, since it's easy to find them all.

The Long Road Home was finished in 2010, but not archived (so I believe it is eligible). It is approximately one million kilobytes. wink

Defender of the Helpless is 2K
That Extra Hour is 7K

Also not archived of mine:

A Tempus Twisted Christmas 126K

Prisoners 109K

Yes, I admit it.... I'm obsessed...

I've put the 2011 Kerth Eligible fics into an Excel spreadsheet with categories of author, title, and size. Counting the additions by mozartmaid, Rac, and others in this thread, I have a total of 128 fics listed.

The spreadsheet is invaluable for searching for the fics in a different way. (For example, did you know that Lynn SM wrote 31 fics this year? And that there are 23 fics of over 100K in size?)

It's very helpful in making Kerth nominations.

Note: It's not organized by keyword or type of fic. You're on your own there.

If you're interested in it, PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you as an attachment.

No-no, not obsessed. Nothing beats a well-organized, color-coded, etc, Excel sheet. /nods emphatically/ Still have mine from last year lying around.

Io, it's good to know I'm not the only one who did that. blush I added a couple of columns to my spreadsheet: In one I put an 'X' to indicate that I have read the story, and another I use to notate for which, if any, category/ies I think the story good enough to consider for nomination.

I was surprised to realize how many stories I had written. But the funny thing is, they are all so short (even the longest one would still fall into the "short story" range), the total word count of all my writing would be less than any one of the longer stories posted. The story I am working on now is my most ambitious yet. It might actually make it up to mid-length range. goofy

Joy,
Lynn

Glad to have the company in the obsessed/organized category. goofy Mine is an Access database - I've been maintaining it for years...

Wow... Glad I'm not alone.

Yes, we must include Rac's "The Long Road Home". I can't believe I read the whole thing or that someone wrote a story that long. Anyway, I just want to see on the list an entry reading:
Raconteur "The Long Road Home" 1,000,000!
I think that's longer than LabRat's "Masque".
cool

Ya know, for a show that went off the air what.... 13 years ago? 14? Having 100+ fics written in a year is pretty darn impressive. It just further illustrates what an amazing show it was and what a great fandom this is.

I *heart* you guys! love

Am I allowed to suggest stories that I haven't written? I can think of a few stories that were completed in 2010, but are not listed here.
Posted By: KathyB Re: Eligible Stories 2011 - 01/05/11 11:37 AM
Tricia et al would have to say for sure, but back when I was on the committee, our rule was that only the author could request a non-archived story be made eligible. Authors may still want to do editing on a story that was posted to the boards during the writing process, and would not consider such a story finished. Thus only the author gets to say whether their story is "done".

But if you have a story in mind that isn't listed, write the author and ask them. If nothing else, you'll probably make their day just by suggesting it. smile

Also, some authors will want to act strategically. Perhaps their story was finished in 2010, but the category it fits is overloaded and so they might hold it over till the following year in the hope that there are less candidates next time around.

There may be many reasons in fact why an author wouldn't want a story to be eligible in the year it was finished, but might want to keep it back and submit it later.

I just caught this error:
All the Daytime and All the Night Time Artemis 186
The title is really "All the Daytime and the Nighttime" It's a song titile. The Archive is correct.
Thanks

Bats! Version Two by Classicalla
The Man Under The Suit by HappyGirl
Go For The Brass Ring by Joan Powers
Suddenly I See by Joan Powers

Hi everyone! smile1

Sorry for the delay in replying here. I have been away and only just returned home. Authors need to contact the Kerth committee or myself if they wish to make a story eligible.

The following stories have been added to the list:
The Long Road Home - Raconteur
Green-Eyed Mad Dog - QueenOfAces

Unfortunately, I can't help with the file sizes. The authors will have that information.

Hi Tricia,

I don't have a KB count on The Man Under the Suit because it only exists in parts at the moment, but a very rough estimate is 1,000KB.

Thanks for fixing the title to my story, "All the Daytime and the Nighttime."

Here's a silly question. The length of the story in kb. Does that correspond to my original microsoft word file or the simple text file that went to the archives? They're not the same number.
Posted By: LabRat Re: Eligible Stories 2011 - 01/20/11 06:51 PM
The Archive text file. The information is taken from my Archive spreadsheet for the year in question.

Of course, that wouldn't apply to the extra stories which authors ask to be made eligible as they haven't been sent to the Archive. So the kcount there would be the author's.
