I know that Lois (at least at the beginning) spent her evenings (when not working) watching "Ivory Tower" videos and eating ice cream.

Wasn't there an "Ivory Tower" character called Gwendolyn? Who was the guy character that they showed in the small clip where Lois was watching "IT"? And was Gwendolyn in love with whoever this guy was, or was she in hate with him?

Any info gladly accepted!

From the script:

Quote
Titles to Lois' favorite Soap Opera, "The Ivory Tower."

LOIS

is glued to the tube, opens the box of Kleenex and gets
ready for a good cry.

ON TV

A gorgeous man pulls a gorgeous woman into his arms.

SOAP ACTOR (ON T.V.)
Gwendolyn... Have you made your *
decision? *

SOAP ACTRESS (ON T.V.)
All right. You win. I'll keep my
promise. Tonight, my body is
yours. But my heart... my heart
beats only for one man.

LOIS

lets herself go, the tears falling freely down her cheeks.
She gets under the covers, snuggles in for the night as
we...
From Sarah's transcript:

Quote
Later that night Lois was sitting in bed propped up against her pillows and snuggled under her comforter, reading some papers with a pair of glasses on. Yawning, she threw the papers down, took off her glasses, and picked up the remote control. She was in the mood to watch one of her favorite tapes, The Ivory Tower. She fast-forwarded through the credits, and munched on some popcorn as she watched.

"Gwendolyn, have you made your decision?" a dark-haired man asked on the screen.

Although she knew it by heart, Lois felt herself getting caught up in the story.

The pretty blonde tossed her wavy hair. "All right, you win," she replied almost defiantly. "I'll keep my promise. Tonight my body is yours. But my heart... my heart beats only for one man," she finished in grand melodramatic fashion.

Thanks for your help!

Does the man character have a name?

And does "Ivory Tower" appear in any other episodes?

Anybody know?

She got the transcript straight from watching the ep so I'd guess no.

I don't think it's in any other eps.

This might be a stupid question, but is the Ivory Tower really a soap opera? Or is it one that was created just for the show? (I've always wondered that.)

Hi ML:
It was made up. There is no such program on American TV.

It's fun to speculate with stuff like this. Is it a show about the Tower family? (Presumably the family would be independently wealthy, like nearly all soap families are. Who wants to get caught up in the adventures of poor people? That hits too close to home!) Is there a character named Ivory? Is it all about the romance and intrigue at a fictional university? (Academics are sometimes accused of living in "ivory towers" and being out of touch with reality.) Or is it a concept show about people who are removed from real life?

I lean towards the Tower family meaning, but something else might be just as valid. Maybe that's one of the subtle reasons Lois was mildly attracted to Lex, because her "romance" with him reminded her of the trials and tribulations of the Tower family.

Anyway, it's a neat loose end any writer can play with.
