Is there anywhere in the series where Clark admits to listening to Lois' heartbeat? Or is that just a popular idea that spread through fanfic? I know he looks up every time the elevator doors open for her, but other than that I can't remember any clues that he might have been listening for her.

I don't recall anything in the series about Clark listening for Lois's heartbeat. However, Clark knowing and homing in on Lois's heartbeat is comic book canon and has been used by several writers.
