I remember reading a story, ages ago, that had the child in Family Hour being given to Lois and Clark on the pretext that it was like a royal hostage thingy (yes, I love being so technical). And that from the New Kryptonian's POV, they had a treaty with us, technically.

however, I am not 100% sure of the story either, so am afraid I have not been much help (unless after you clear this up for me, someone else knows the answer, then I have helped...)

Was it the one where Zara and Ching left him? And he's actually L/C's bio son or something and then Zara and Ching come back and Zara ends up claiming to be his mother for the purposes of completing the adoption?

I don't remember the title... but maybe someone else does... did it have something to do with baby assassinations? The child was some sort of New Krypton's public enemy and Zara and Ching let Lois & Clark look after him for a while, but then they come back for the baby so they can execute him.. only Clark refuses... ???

The story I'm thinking of would have come out in the last 5 years.

Let's see, that would be in 'Plane Storm' and 'After the Storm'. The child in question is Clark's daughter (although he had nothing to do with it) and her existence creats an intolerable political situation on NK. L&C's solution: send the baby off with a Kryptonian/human couple in an alternate dimension which has no New Krypton colony.

But 'Plane Storm' is set 10 years after the series and the fourth season was preempted.

I do remember a story as described, but I don't recall the title.
