Okay, I'm just going to go ahead and post the authors and who wrote what. I'll put a little spoiler space in case anyone would like to still guess on their own. I had a lot of fun watching all of the guesses. I hope you guys did too. Sorry I didn't work out this whole guessing thing a little better!

Can we post how well we did here?

I skimmed the fic, made a guess, then checked it out. I was able to guess EditorJax, Laura S., QotC, symbolicangel, and CarolM, besides my own.

Good Job, People.

I got Jax, Sue and DJ. Pathetic in the end, I know *hangs head* (and I thought I was off to such a good start...) But at least I got the Sue one, I would have felt bad if I had missed hers.

Alas! Despite my overall suckiness, this was was still fun. Is it me or did "True Colors" (the other nfic) get left out? I wanted to see who wrote that one.

ETA: Thanks to Laura and all the participants!

Well, I did just about as well as I expected to, considering I can't figure out the concept of a writing style, let along recognise individual ones. laugh

This was lots of fun though and I'm delighted that it resulted in so many new stories posted on the mbs. Remember to send them all along to the Archive!

And a big round of applause to Laura for organising it all! clap clap clap

Mostly, the thing I looked for was a hint of a subject or trademark. For Laura S, it was the setting being Smallville. For EditorJax, it was New Orleans. For QotC, it was a killer punch line.

Well, now I'm sorry we didn't have a guessing competition because I did better than I thought I would laugh .

*consults geeky spreadsheet*

I got Sue, Jax, the first of Laura S's, both of LaraMoon's, DJ, QotC, D8a, and Erin Klingler. I only got DJ and Erin after I saw the author list, though smile .

This was fun, Laura. Thanks for organizing it!

I will as soon as I write part 2 of mine, Trading Places: Sunnydale Style, where we find out what happened to Lois and Clark over in the Buffy universe.

James, who did, at least get one of Elisabeth's stories. I never would have guessed her for A Vision in White(you did good, honey!)
Posted By: symbolicangel Re: Guess the Author Answers - 11/07/07 09:45 AM
I didn't finish guessing, but I was way off on the ones I did guess on. I only had two right--EditorJax on Southern Nights, and Elisabeth on A Vision in White--neither of which I mentioned in the the fdk thread.

Thanks for organizing this, Laura! It was a lot of fun.

So much for my measly guesses, as well, lol. smile Thank you to everyone who participated and Laura for all your organzing hard work. clap

Well, I got one right (but I haven't gotten to read them all yet). I guess doing a GE on one of Caroline's recent fics made me recognize hers. And, of course, I'm not counting the ones that I knew who wrote them...
Posted By: Dandello Re: Guess the Author Answers - 11/08/07 12:11 AM
I guess I must have done something right - I wasn't even on anybody's radar. eek
Posted By: Lara Joelle Kent Re: Guess the Author Answers - 11/08/07 03:35 PM
Grrr, here I am, sending in a story (the nfic one) that is completely out of character for me, and then we get told who wrote what right after my story is posted. I guess I wrecked my nice-little-girl reputation for naught. frown

Oh well, it still was fun. And I'm still looking forward to the next time we're having a 'guess the author'.
Posted By: Elisabeth Re: Guess the Author Answers - 11/09/07 02:48 PM
I'm happy to say that I can guess my own work 100% of the time. wink Other than that you could say that I'm a nice gal, but not very bright. goofy If I hadn't caught a glimpse of story notes on my hubby's computer (so sorry, dear) I would have even thought his work was that of Marcus Rowland.

The closest I got was for The Perfect Costume, where I said
Quote
Plan C is that I guess that this particular piece was written by Lara Joelle Kent, simply because I think this author was being trickier than most and this piece doesn't match her style.
Which is code talk for, "I haven't got a clue, but I haven't guessed her, yet." dizzy I thought she had written two pieces since I thought the other matched her style more. Of course, that was really Woody.

I hope it makes ya'll feel really smart to have me around.

Drat! Foiled again.
There are worse things that can catch you up. He could have said, "For QotC, it was her inability to spell Loise and Clerk."

Thanks to all the authors who gave us some great stories! thumbsup thumbsup

Also a BIG thanks goes to Laura for organizing it. ^_^ It was such a fun event. Thank you for encouraging so many authors to write these past months. It has been such a joy and you helped make it happen. ^_^ clap dance

Psst, JoJo, it was Laura, although I'm sure Lara would love to take the credit.

Also, as far as Queenie's story, I did guess her for Hey, Sailor, but when posting what gave her away, I thought it was The Ball is in Your Court, which had a great punch line (yay for Lara-hey, she's been mistaken for someone else twice). So I have to rescind that comment about what gave her away. I think what made me guess her was the style of humor that I've seen in her other fics, and that sheep thing was kind of suspicious since she just started a fic based off a LabRat idea. Yeah, *that* sheep thing. But your punch line was great too.
Posted By: jojo_da_crow Re: Guess the Author Answers - 11/09/07 10:21 PM
I'm sure she knew what I meant.
Posted By: woody Re: Guess the Author Answers - 11/09/07 10:30 PM
Yeah, I'm sure she did. And I wasn't trying to nitpick either. It was just most often a misspelling doesn't make sense. (Like if someone left out the r in your nick). The biggest problem I often have with making those mistakes personally is not that I don't know how to spell a word or a name but that I don't type really well. So I have to always recheck my posts for errors. grumble
Posted By: Lara Joelle Kent Re: Guess the Author Answers - 11/10/07 05:36 PM
Actually, I don't feel smart at all. Without the list of authors, I couldn't guess a single one of them (apart from my own work and the ones I had inside information on). With the list... Well, Woody gave himself away to me with a pm that arrived about ten minutes after I offered FDK on his story.

I guess if I had taken the time to think about it, I could have guessed QotC. This fic is the only one that matches her style, I think. (Not that I'm that good at recognizing style, but seeing as I'm rather fond of her stories... Anyway, I'm babbling.)

Anyway, Elisabeth, I sure loved your reasoning for guessing me for my story. (You *did* say something about going for option three which was me.) I mean, isn't there a higher compliment than "I think it's hers because it doesn't match her style"? I mean, there I was, feeling proud because I had managed to stop myself from using words and sentence constructions I habitually use... Well, I think you get the picture. wink I guess my author's note combined with the fact that you *knew* I *didn't* write *your* story (*cough, cough*) helped you along the way a little, didn't it? goofy

I just stumbled across this thread and went search for all the Nfics that were listed to read them but has no luck in finding them...are they anywhere to be read?? confused
Posted By: Classicalla Re: Guess the Author Answers - 10/28/08 11:06 PM
Hi! Not all of them were nfics. All of the stories should be on this board. Click on 'search' at the top right of the board (after directory and before faq). Make sure you are searching under fanfic or nfic. Put in the name of the fic and choose any date. Most of the time, this works in being able to find the fics.

Here are the nfics from last year's Guess The Author:
Posted By: LabRat Re: Guess the Author Answers - 10/29/08 06:15 AM
Sorry, Lara, but it's not permitted to directly link to nfic stories in a PG13-rated section of the folder, so I've had to delete your links.

The nfic on this forum is in its own restricted folder. If you want to post these links in a post in the nfic folder, that would be fine. But you can't post it here or any other folder outside the nfic folder.

Actually, I'm not quite sure how you did that. laugh As far as I know, it shouldn't be possible to directly link to the nfic folder like that from elsewhere on the forum. You should just get a message telling you you've tried to link to a restricted folder.

Me votes that we should do this again.

I posted a new thread here:

so we can figure out the pros and cons.

Sorry, Labby! Didn't know that. (Neither did the software.)

If it helps any: I once put a link to the nfic folder in a place nobody else can access, logged out of here and tried out the link. I was told I couldn't access the page because it was restricted. So I figured there was no harm done. cat
Posted By: LabRat Re: Guess the Author Answers - 10/29/08 03:14 PM
No worries, Lara. smile No harm done.

Yeah, that's what should have happened this time, too. Still no clue why it didn't. dizzy

LabRat smile
Posted By: Lara Joelle Kent Re: Guess the Author Answers - 10/31/08 04:25 AM
Well, as far as I know, it only says so if you try to access the nfic board via a link. I didn't have any trouble with posting the link, though. Maybe that's the way it works? Or maybe I didn't get stopped in the first place because I used the [url=http://www....]insert name here[(slash)url] format?
Posted By: LabRat Re: Guess the Author Answers - 10/31/08 06:53 AM
No, that was the issue. When I clicked on the first of your links I was taken straight to the actual story in the nfic folder.

AFAIK, that shouldn't happen. I should have clicked on your link and been given a message that it was a restricted folder. I shouldn't have been able to access any of the stories in nfic.

LabRat smile
Posted By: MrsMosley Re: Guess the Author Answers - 10/31/08 08:09 AM
Labby, is it possible it let you in because you already have access to that folder? Whereas someone who didn't have nfic access would get blocked if they clicked the link? Not that I really know, just speculating! smile
Posted By: Lara Joelle Kent Re: Guess the Author Answers - 11/03/08 01:32 AM
That's exactly how it works, Lisa. As long as you're logged in (and have access to the folder), the link works for you. As long as you're not logged in, you get the message that this was a restricted folder. I think I once previewed a message with a link to the nfic folder and logged out before clicking on the link to test it. (And, no, I didn't actually send the message, I only wanted to find out if access is indeed restricted to logged-in members with access to the nfic folders.) You might want to try it, Labby.

Lisa, that's exactly the answer. Eeeesh. Braindead, strikes again. I should have realised that days ago.
